Harrogate, TN – Lincoln Memorial women's soccer's match against the Wingate Bulldogs ended in a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon.
The Railsplitters came out with offensive pressure in the first five minutes, then drifted off into a more defensive approach for the next ten minutes, until the Bulldogs took the lead in the 26
th minute by Hernandez.
Lincoln Memorial picked up the momentum again with a near-goal opportunity by
Edie Wilds in the 33
rd minute that goes just left of the goal.
The Railsplitters tied up the match in the 38
th minute as
Jade Brown took a free kick near the half line, which went off a Bulldog head right to the feet to
Edie Wilds who put the ball in the back of the net. With the score remaining the same for the remainder of the half, the score stayed tied at 1-1 going into halftime.
Both teams had some close chances at goal in the first ten minutes, with
Edie Wilds taking a shot just left of goal and
Emma Cooke making a couple of key saves to keep the Bulldogs from scoring.
The next 15 minutes were quiet, but Lincoln Memorial was able to make few plays in their attacking third, with no shots being taken.
The rest of the half was the same, as both teams battled for possession in the final third, but neither team was able to get the ball n the back of the net, leaving the match tied at 1-1.
Edie Wilds had the lone goal of the afternoon, with
Elizabeth Butler leading in shots with three. Goalkeeper
Emma Cooke played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded five saves.
As a team, Lincoln Memorial took ten shots, with five being on goal, five saves and had three corner kicks.
The team will go back on the road as they travel to Cleveland, TN to face #9 Lee University on Wednesday, September 30
th at 5:00 pm.
