Milledgeville, GA – Lincoln Memorial women's soccer defeats the Georgis College Bobcats Saturday afternoon 2-0 for their first win of the season.
Throughout the first 15 minutes, both teams had a couple opportunities to score, but the Bobcats' shots were off frame compared to LMU's on goal shots from
Edie Wilds and
Ally Bevins.
Possession continued to go back-and-forth between the two teams, until the Railsplitters took the 1-0 lead in the 31
st minute, as
Donna van der Zalm scored a header off of a free kick by
Jade Brown. LMU continued with the momentum with another goal 12 minutes later in the 42
nd minute, with
Emma O'Donnell throwing the ball in to
Paige Branam, allowing her to score her first goal of the season.
Lincoln Memorial fought to take the clean sheet into halftime, and they were successful as LMU kept the 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Lincoln Memorial came out in the second half firing, as they started creating opportunities two minutes in by
Edie Wilds.
The teams continued to battle, but the Bobcats slightly outshot the Railsplitters 4-2 in the first 20 minutes of the half.
Despite GCSU aving multiple chances to score, Lincoln Memorial kept the poace and didn't allow the Bobcats to score, giving LMU their first win of the season 2-0.
Van der Zalm and Branam scored a goal each for Lincoln Memorial, while O'Donnell and Brown tallying the assists. E. Wilds led the team in both shots and shots on goal. And goalkeeper
Emma Cooke recorded her first shutout of the season with eight saves.
GCSU topped LMU in shots (11-18), shots on goal (8-5), and corner kicks (2-6), but topped the Bobcats in saves (8-3).
With the win, Lincoln Memorial improves to 1-1-2 and GCSU drops to 1-1.
The team will have a week off as they will play on Saturday, September 12
th as they host their conference opener against Lenoir-Rhyne at 3:30 pm.
