WBB Assistant Coach Saunders

Jourdan Sanders

Lincoln Memorial University head women’s basketball coach Devan Carter announced the hiring of Jourdan Sanders as an assistant coach on May 20, 2020. Sanders enters his second season on staff in 2021-22.

In his first season on staff, Sanders helped LMU to an 11-11 (7-10 SAC) record and a postseason run that will not soon be forgotten as the Lady Railsplitters became the first eighth seed to defeat a one seed (Carson-Newman) in the quarterfinal round of the 2021 SAC Pilot Flying J Women's Basketball Championship. Continuing their outstanding run, LMU went on to defeat Anderson in the semifinals before falling to Tusculum in the final.

Working with the post players, Sanders made an immediate impact as senior Maggie Jachimczuk and junior Jordan Maney both posted career highs in points per game average while providing excellent shooting and defense down low. When Mikayla Kuehne transferred in for the spring semester, Sanders helped her make an immediate impact in a "sixth man" role while averaging double-figures in scoring and providing veteran leadership.

Sanders arrived in Harrogate after spending the past two seasons at fellow South Atlantic Conference member Tusculum University, including one season as an assistant coach and one season as a graduate assistant.

In his second season in Greeneville, Sanders helped the team to a 24-8 overall record and their first  South Atlantic Conference tournament championship since the 2010-11 season, as well as the first NCAA Southeast Regional appearance since the 2011-12 season.

During his time as an assistant coach, Sanders assisted primarily with post players. He was responsible for skill development, individual workouts, and film session. He assisted heavily in the development of Mia Long, who was named first team All-South Atlantic Conference, South Atlantic Conference Tournament MVP, and second team All-Southeast Region for the 2019-20 season. Additionally, he helped Kasey Johnson earn All-South Atlantic Conference honorable mention honors in 2019-20.

As a graduate assistant, Sanders assisted with individual skill development of all players, helped with scouting and pregame preparation, and organized summer basketball camps at Tusculum.

Sanders graduated from St. Andrews University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Recreational Studies, and received his Master of Business Administration from Tusculum in December of 2019.
