Acton came to LMU in 2010 after two seasons at Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, Acton has a long line of experience when it comes to the game of women’s basketball. Following graduation from Western Kentucky University in 1995, he served as women’s assistant coach at Brescia College in his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky, from 1995 to 1998.  During that time, Brescia tallied a 78-19 record while making two NAIA National Tournament appearances.

During the 1998-99 season, Acton moved to NCAA Division II Francis Marion University as assistant where he helped guide the team to a 27-3 record that included a Peach Belt Conference regular season title and an appearance in the 1999 NCAA Division II “Sweet Sixteen.”

From 1999 to 2001 he served as assistant coach at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina.  During his stay at Lander, the team posted a 28-28 record while earning an NCAA National Tournament appearance in 2000.

He then went from Lander to South Atlantic Conference rival Carson-Newman, where he was the top assistant from 2001 to 2008. While at C-N, Acton helped the Lady Eagles to a 116-89 record while earning a trip to the NCAA Division II “Sweet Sixteen,” capturing one SAC Tournament Championship and finishing as tournament runner-up once and regular season runner up once.

Acton then spent two seasons at then-Division I Winston-Salem State, where he was mainly involved with recruiting and coaching the team’s frontcourt players.
