HARROGATE, Tenn. – Seeking their sixth consecutive South Atlantic Conference win and their seventh straight victory overall, the Lady Railsplitters (7-2, 5-1 SAC) travel to Charlotte, N.C. Saturday evening to take on the Queens Royals (5-6-1, 3-2-1 SAC). Lincoln Memorial and Queens are set to tangle at 5 p.m. at Marion Diehl Park.
The Lady Railsplitters have compiled a winning streak of seven or more only five times since the 1998 season, accomplishing that feat during the '98, '04, '05, '07 and '10 campaigns. This is the first time since the 2005 season, when the Lady Railsplitters won the Gulf South Conference Championship, in which the program has claimed five straight league victories. The Lady Railsplitters have never won six consecutive conference matches in program history.
Senior
Fernanda Miaci (Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil) has scorched the competition in recent week as the forward has accounted for five goals and two assists over Lincoln Memorial's six game flourish. Included in that, Miaci netted a hat trick Thursday evening in Jefferson City, Tenn. to lift the Lady Railsplitters to a thrilling 4-3 win over rival Carson-Newman in double overtime. The Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil native was the first Lady Railsplitter to register a hat trick since Sarah Taylor accomplished that feat during the 2009 season.
In addition to the stellar play of Miaci, senior
Nicole McKinney (Ooltewah, Tenn.) has accounted for two goals in her past two appearances after being limited to only one point through the first seven matches of the season. McKinney tallied the game-tying score in the 71st minute of LMU's triumph over Carson-Newman Thursday.
After not allowing a goal for a span of seven appearances, junior netminder
Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas) came under pressure against Carson-Newman as the Eagle attack was able to sneak three goals past the veteran backstop, including a penalty kick in the second half. Despite that three-goal outburst, the Keller, Texas native still ranks among the league's elite in goals against (5), goals against average, (.77) and save percentage (.861).
The Queens Royals welcome the Lady Railsplitters to Charlotte Saturday currently sitting in sole possession of sixth in the SAC standings. The Royals dropped four of their first five matches of the season, but they have found some momentum recently by winning four of their last six, including a dominant 3-0 triumph over Catawba on Wednesday. Queens has produced 151 shots, 88 shots on goal and 15 goals this season. With 58.3 percent of their total shots landing on target, the Royals lead the South Atlantic Conference in shots on goal percentage.
The Royals bring a plethora of scorers to the pitch as six players have netted two goals apiece for Queens along with three others who have accounted for a single strike. Sydney Michelin leads the Royals with 25 shots, but the sophomore forward has only accounted for one goal. Sophomore Caitlyn Rodriguez has posted a pair of goals on 21 shots and a team-leading 15 shots on goal. Freshman Alana Jefferson has contributed a team-high six points with two goals and two assists on 14 shot attempts.
The Lady Railsplitters will be greeted by Tori Danchak in net for the Royals as the freshman has played nearly every minute this season, racking up 55 saves with a 0.80 goals against average in 1,013:19 total minutes. Danchak leads the SAC in minutes played while accounting for the second-most saves and the fourth-lowest goals against average. As a unit, the Royals boast a cumulative 1.06 goals against average, .03 points higher than the Lady Railsplitters.
Lincoln Memorial claimed a 2-0 victory over the Royals last season at the LMU Soccer Complex in the first ever meeting between the two programs.
First kick between the Lady Railsplitters and Royals is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, October 11 in Charlotte, N.C. Queens will be providing live stats in addition to a free, live video broadcast.
