Allison Beavers compiles career-high 17 kills in five set loss to Lenoir-Rhyne

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Freshman outside hitter Kiera Holland (Columbia, S.C.) and senior right side Allison Beavers (Tomball, Texas) combined for 35 kills, but the Lady Railsplitters (14-10, 10-6 SAC) were upended in five sets by the visiting Lenoir-Rhyne Bears (16-7, 10-6 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action Friday night at Mary Mars Gym. Lincoln Memorial fell by set scores of 20-25, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25 and 13-15.

The dramatic fifth frame was representative of the match as a whole as the Lady Railsplitters and Bears met in a tie on nine separate occasions while the lead changed hands three times. The Lady Railsplitters assumed a 12-10 edge after kills by Jazzy Oates (Franklin, Tenn.) and Holland, but back-to-back kills from Brooke Redmond evened the decisive fifth set at 12-12. Holland struck down another kill to briefly prop Lincoln Memorial to a 13-12 advantage, but two LMU attack errors and a ball handling blunder awarded Lenoir-Rhyne a 15-13 match-clinching victory.

The Lady Railsplitters hit .202 in the match, accumulating 61 kills with 25 errors on 178 total attempts. Lenoir-Rhyne, meanwhile, accounted for a .185 attack percentage with 58 kills and 26 miscues on 173 attempts.

Kiera Holland led all players in the match with 18 kills on a .256 attack percentage, adding seven digs and four block assists to her stat ledger. Allison Beavers compiled a career-best 17 kills, topping her previous high of 16 from back on November 12, 2013, on a .308 attack percentage. Sophomore Kara Solek (Denver, N.C.) also factored into the attack with eight kills with a .217 clip. Sophomore setter Abby Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) accounted for a match- and career-high 23 digs with 41 assists and three service aces. Junior Casey Mense (Littleton, Colo.) posted 20 digs while Kendra Gephart (Morrow, Ohio) contributed 10 scoops.

The loss snapped Lincoln Memorial's four match winning streak, dropped the Lady Railsplitters back into a two-way tie with Lenoir-Rhyne for fourth in the South Atlantic Conference standings. It was the Bears' fourth consecutive win over the Lady Railsplitters, as Lenoir-Rhyne completed the regular season sweep by building off of a 3-0 win September 26.

Four different Bears finished the match with double-digit kills. Brandi Thomas led that group with 16 kills and 17 digs. Ashley Wells posted 14 kills, while Brooke Redmond tallied 11 kills and 11 scoops. Haley Rhyne paced all players with a .429 attack percentage, notching 11 kills and five block assists. Brianna Gottberg led the Bears in both assists and digs, tallying 47 and 19 for a double-double.

The Lady Railsplitters return to Mary Mars Gym Saturday afternoon for a SAC bout against the Brevard Tornados. First serve between LMU and Brevard is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Harrogate, Tenn.
