Lady Railsplitters play Catawba to a 1-1 draw in Salisbury

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Lady Railsplitters (9-2-2, 7-1-2 SAC) and Catawba Indians (10-5-1, 5-4-1 SAC) played to a 1-1 stalemate in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action Saturday evening at Frock Field in Salisbury, N.C. In the process, Lincoln Memorial extended its streak of consecutive matches without a loss to 10.

The Railsplitters and Indians were locked in a 0-0 tie through 36 minutes of action until senior striker Fernanda Miaci (Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil) broke through the defense and snuck a shot past Catawba goalkeeper Bethany Davis for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.

LMU's lead held through halftime, but Catawba's Karen Presnell found Kiersten Peck on a low cross in the 66th minute to tie the match at 1-1.

Junior goaltender Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas) was faced with three separate Catawba scoring opportunities in the first and second overtime periods, as she turned away shots in the 97th, 101st and 107th minutes to rack up a total of five saves in the match.

There were six shots combined in the two 10-minute overtime periods as both teams registered three attempts apiece with all three of Catawba's shots landing on target. Lincoln Memorial's Michelle Hunter (Tecumseh, Ontario) logged LMU's only shot on goal in the combined 20 minutes of extra time as she fired a shot into the hands of Davis in the 91st minute.

The Lady Railsplitters outshot the Indians by a slim 13-10 margin in the SAC clash as four different LMU players accumulated shots. Junior Maddy Nagy (Rockledge, Fla.) led the way with six shots and one shot on goal, while Miaci added three shots and the lone goal.  In addition, Hunter and Rachael Vienneau (Woodstock, Ga.) contributed two shot attempts apiece. Vienneau put both attempts on frame but Davis managed to turn away both of the senior's tries, as the junior netminder finished the evening with six saves.

The referee was busy in Saturday's match as 30 fouls were called and two yellow cards were issued. Lincoln Memorial's Krista Holka (Harrison Township, Mich.) was served a yellow card in the 80th minute while Catawba collected the remaining penalty in the 17th minute of action.

The Lady Railsplitters will take a quick break from South Atlantic Conference action before wrapping up the regular season with Wingate on Saturday, as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. Tuesday to do battle with Trevecca Nazarene with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
