HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Freshman outside hitter
Kiera Holland (Columbia, S.C.) logged 13 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore setter
Abby Cash (New Carlisle, Ohio) posted her 17th double-double of the season with 31 assists and 10 digs as the Lady Railsplitters collected a straight-set sweep of the Coker Cobras (5-22, 1-18 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action Saturday in Hartsville, S.C. Lincoln Memorial knocked off the Cobras by set scores of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-23.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters hit .270 as a unit, producing 44 kills with only 14 errors on 111 total attempts. Along with Holland's game-high 13 kill outburst, which was compiled on a .320 attack percentage, senior right side
Allison Beavers (Tomball, Texas) accounted for nine kills on only 12 swings for a gaudy .750 attacking clip. Junior
Jazzy Oates (Franklin, Tenn.) pitched in with six kills and a pair of block assists, while Cash paired five kills alongside her 31 assists and 10 digs. Junior libero
Casey Mense (Littleton, Colo.) led all players in the match with 15 scoops.
Â
An Oates service ace propped the Lady Railsplitters to a 10-9 lead in the opening stanza, but a Brooke Closset kill capped a 10-4 Coker run that pushed the Cobras in front 19-14. Lincoln Memorial recorded a kill in four of the next seven rallies to square the set at 20-20. The two teams traded blows over the next passage of play, but the Cobras assumed a 23-21 edge on a Celia Duggan kill. Kills by Cash,
Brooke Fleeman (Nashville, Tenn.) and Holland helped the Lady Railsplitters ward off the Cobras and take a 24-23 lead. After a Madison Bingle kill evened it at 24-24, Cash and Fleeman collected back-to-back kills to end the set in LMU's favor 26-24.
Â
The Lady Railsplitters carried that momentum into the second set as yet another Cash kill made it 10-4 in the Blue and Gray's corner. The Cobras nearly erased all of that lead with a 5-0 run at the midway point, making it 17-16 on an LMU attack error. The Lady Railsplitters stopped the bleeding with back-to-back kills by Holland and another by Oates. Coker clung within striking distance at 22-19 following a Christen Bragg kill, but the Lady Railsplitters ended it with a Cobra attacking miscue, a Beavers kill and an Oates service ace.
Â
The decisive third set featured nine ties and three lead changes. Another Bingle kill conjured up the final stalemate at 22-22, but the Lady Railsplitters used terminations by Holland and Beavers to take a 24-22 lead. The Cobras briefly staved off the end of the set with a Duggan kill, but Beavers put away her ninth kill to end the match with a 25-23 set victory.
