Lady Railsplitters fall to hot-hitting Trojans on Senior Day

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Lady Railsplitters (16-14, 12-10 SAC) fell victim to a relentless Anderson (23-7, 16-6 SAC) offensive attack Saturday at Mary E. Mars Gymnasium, as the Trojans marred Senior Day festivities with a straight-set win in the South Atlantic Conference volleyball regular-season finale. Lincoln Memorial was taken down in the match by set scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-12.

The Trojans posted a .394 attack percentage as a unit, accumulating 51 kills with only 10 errors on 104 total attempts. Anderson hit better than .300 in all three sets, logging .462, .333 and .379 marks in consecutive frames. The duo of Shannon Gillespie and Hailey Pittman was once again the story as that pair combined for 34 kills. Gillespie posted a match-high 19 kills with a .459 attack percentage to go alongside 13 digs. Pittman, meanwhile, accounted for 15 kills on a gaudy .636 hitting percentage. Anderson's Kendall Vallancourt added nine kills. Priscilla Irizarry paced the Trojans with 43 assists to go along with 12 digs.

The Lady Railsplitters were limited to a .129 attacking clip, compiling 25 kills and 12 errors while nearly replicating the Trojans' number with 101 attempts. Senior MaRanda Boddie (Springfield, Ohio) logged six kills on only 12 attempts to lead the Lady Railsplitters offensively, while senior Allison Beavers (Tomball, Texas) contributed five kills, 13 assists and six digs. Sophomore right side Brooke Fleeman (Nashville, Tenn.) churned out five kills, while Kiera Holland (Columbia, S.C.) and Jazzy Oates (Franklin, Tenn.) added three apiece. Junior libero Casey Mense (Littleton, Colo,) paced LMU with 11 digs.

Anderson's cumulative .394 attack percentage was the highest mark the Lady Railsplitters have allowed since West Alabama accumulated a .450 clip on October 13, 2007. Lincoln Memorial was swept in the regular season series with Anderson for the first time in program history.

Prior to the start of Saturday's match, the Lady Railsplitters celebrated Senior Day with a ceremony in honor of its three-player senior class: Allison Beavers, MaRanda Boddie and Monica McConnaughey (Federal Way, Wash.). Beavers has appeared in 119 matches during her four-year tenure with the Lady Railsplitters, racking up the seventh-most career assists in program history with 1,819. Boddie has compiled 158 kills with an average of 1.53 kills per set in her one and only season in the Blue and Gray. McConnaughey has appeared in 47 sets in her final season with the Lady Railsplitters, averaging 1.15 digs each frame over that span.

With a 12-10 league mark, the Lady Railsplitters have earned the No.6 seed for next week's South Atlantic Conference Championship in Hickory, N.C. In a repeat of Saturday's match, Lincoln Memorial is slated to square off against three-seeded Anderson in the quarterfinal round, which is scheduled for Friday, November 14.
