Lady Railsplitters Rout Tigers 5-1

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Sophomore forward Michelle Hunter (Tecumseh, Ontario) netted two goals and junior Maddy Nagy (Rockledge, Fla.) added a pair of assists as the Lady Railsplitters (2-2) claimed a 5-1 win over the Georgetown Tigers (0-5) in non-conference action at the LMU Soccer Complex on Wednesday.

The win marks the first time in program history that Lincoln Memorial has defeated the Tigers, ending a 0-3 drought in the first match-up between the two teams since 1995.

The Lady Railsplitters have struggled to mount any offense in the early portion of the season, but they exploded on that side of the field on Wednesday, controlling time of possession while firing a season high 30 shots with 15 landing on goal.

Lincoln Memorial opened the scoring in the 17th minute when a cross from sophomore Christina Joseph (Sebastian, Fla.) deflected off of Georgetown keeper Brittany Moshos and landed at the feet of the awaiting Hunter, who tallied the first of her two goals in the match.

The Lady Railsplitters added to their lead five minutes later when junior Olivia Thompson (Melbourne, Fla.) powered in a goal off of a cross by senior Kristen Cook (Little Rock, Ark.) for her first score of the 2014 campaign.

Hunter claimed her second goal of the day just nine minutes into the second half when she gathered a rebound in the middle of the box, finding the back of the net for her third goal of the season and the 11th of her career.

The Lady Railsplitters would tack on to their lead minutes later when senior Fernanda Miaci (Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil) gathered a long pass from junior Maddy Nagy (Rockledge, Fla.) that scampered by the Tiger goalkeeper for her second goal of the season.

Georgetown ended the shutout in the 67th minute after Mackenzie Zimmer snuck a goal over the extended arm of LMU goaltender Kathryn Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.). Lincoln Memorial erased that score with just under three minutes remaining in regulation as junior Sam Davis (Spring, Texas) punched in a goal off of a corner kick from Nagy for her first goal as a member of the Lady Railsplitters.

12 different players accumulated shots for the Lady Railsplitters with Miaci and Hunter tying for the team lead with five. Nagy added four shots, while juniors Kadie Soall (Tecumseh, Ontario) and Madison Rivard (Roanoke, Texas) accounted for three shots apiece.

Junior netminder Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas) and Lundy split time in goal for the fourth-consecutive match. Stephens got the start, recording a save without a goal allowed in the first half. Lundy allowed a single goal with a save to her credit in the final 45 minutes of regulation.

The Tigers were limited to only six shots and three shots on goal in the contest. Mackenzie Zimmer paced Georgetown with two shots.

Lincoln Memorial returns to South Atlantic Conference action Saturday, September 20 as they travel to Newberry, S.C. to take on the Newberry Wolves with first kick set for 3:30 p.m. at the Smith Road Complex.
