MARS HILL, N.C. – Sophomore
Michelle Hunter (Tecumseh, Ontario) struck for the third-consecutive contest as the Lady Railsplitters (4-2, 2-1 SAC) cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Mars Hill Lions (0-7, 0-3 SAC) Wednesday evening at Belk Field in Mars Hill, North Carolina for their second-consecutive South Atlantic Conference triumph of the season.
Lincoln Memorial scored early in the affair as Hunter powered a shot to the back of the net in the 17
th minute for her fifth goal of the season, which was facilitated by a pass from teammate
Fernanda Miaci (Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil).
Hunter's contribution marked the third-consecutive contest in which the Tecumseh, Ontario native has tallied a goal, as the sophomore chalked up two goals against Georgetown College last Wednesday and the game-winning blast against Newberry on Saturday.
The Lady Railsplitters added to their 1-0 advantage minutes after Hunter's strike when Miaci broke past the Lions' back line, beating Mars Hill goalkeeper Tori Stajduhar for her third goal of the season, which concluded the first half.
Lincoln Memorial cushioned their 2-0 lead early in the second period when junior
Kadie Soall (Tecumseh, Ontario) knocked home her first goal as a member of the Lady Railsplitters. The junior dribbled past the Lion defense to score from 15 yards out and extend the Lady Railsplitters' lead to 3-0.
Mars Hill broke the shutout in the 55th minute after Breona Tate slipped a goal past LMU goaltender
Kathryn Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.). Lincoln Memorial erased that score in the 75th minute when sophomore
Marissa Kiernan (Port St.Lucie, Fla.) recovered a deflected pass from teammate
Maddy Nagy (Rockledge, Fla.) and pinpointed the ball into the back of the net.
12 different players accumulated shots for the Lady Railsplitters as the team fired 25 shots, 14 of which landed on goal. Kiernan led the way for LMU as she attempted six shots with three shots on goal. Miaci mustered up five shots of her own and four landed on target.
Junior netminder
Kayla Stephens (Keller, Texas) and Lundy split time in goal for the fifth time this season. Stephens earned the start and recorded five saves in just over 52 minutes of action. Lundy allowed a single goal with a save to her credit in nearly 38 minutes of playing time.
Two yellow cards were issued during the match-up as Lundy recorded a card in the 55th minute, followed by Breona Tate for Mars Hill in the 78th minute.
Lincoln Memorial returns to the LMU Soccer Complex Saturday, September 27 as they host the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears with first kick set for 1 p.m.
