Fourth-ranked Railsplitters clash with Trojans Wednesday

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- Looking to sweep the regular-season series against Anderson (7-5, 3-3 SAC) for the first time in program history, the fourth-ranked Railsplitters (12-0, 6-0 SAC) host the Trojans for a South Atlantic Conference clash on Wednesday evening at Tex Turner Arena.

Luquon Choice (Laurens, S.C.) matched a season-high with 25 points on 7-of-13 shooting from deep to lead Lincoln Memorial to a narrow 65-61 victory over the Trojans in the initial meeting this season on November 25 in Anderson, S.C. The trio of Choice, Lorenza Ross (Savannah, Ga.) and Gerel Simmons (Accokeek, Md.) combined for 55 of the team's 65 points, as Ross added 18 on 7-for-11 shooting and Simmons posted 12. The Railsplitters led by 10 with 5:48 left, but Anderson nearly brought it all the way back with a 10-3 run down the stretch.

Since the beginning of the 2010-11 season, the Railsplitters have compiled a 118-18 win-loss record, which includes LMU's 12-0 start to this season. The Trojans have accounted for a third of those losses over that span, topping the Railsplitters six times since joining the South Atlantic Conference for the 2010-11 season. Lincoln Memorial is 3-2 against Anderson in the Palmetto State, but they have lost three consecutive times to the Trojans in Tex Turner Arena. The Railsplitters have lost just 10 times total at home during the Josh Schertz era. The Railsplitters have never swept the regular-season series against Anderson.

Each of the last three home losses to Anderson have come in increasingly heartbreaking fashion, with last year's defeat reaching the pinnacle of heartbreak. The Railsplitters led by as many as 18 early in the second half, but the Trojans rallied all the way back to tie the game on a desperation, last-second tip-in by CJ Gleaton. The Railsplitters then went on to fall 84-79 in overtime.

The Trojans are a much different team that they were on November 25 thanks to the return of senior forward Chris Ross. After missing the first six games of the season with an apparent lower leg injury, Ross made his season debut on December 3 in a 78-75 win over Brevard. Anderson has won six of its seven games since Ross returned to the rotation, including a current stretch of five consecutive wins. Anderson's only loss since falling to the Railsplitters was a 15-point defeat at the hands of then unbeaten Newberry.

Along with Ross, who is averaging 12.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest, senior guard Myson Jones leads the Trojans in scoring with 14.1 points per to go along with 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Nick Jackson is contributing 11.2 points and 4.3 boards per game. Jones (14), Rakish Taylor (13) and Alani Adekambi (11) all reached double-figures in the season's first meeting with LMU.

Despite attempting their second-fewest shot attempts (47) and tallying their second-worst field-goal percentage (42.6 percent) of the 2014-15 campaign, the Railsplitters remained unbeaten with a 67-55 win over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Saturday afternoon. Choice led LMU with 16 points on just 5-of-15 shooting, while Ross and Simmons added 10 points apiece. The Railsplitters made up for their lack of efficiency from the field by obliterating their previous season-high with a 22-for-27 mark at the charity stripe.

After experiencing a minor slump in late November and early December, Luquon Choice is back on track for the Railsplitters. The Laurens, S.C. native has poured in at least 16 points in each of his last four games. Choice ranks fifth in the SAC in scoring with 16.6 points per game, while his 44 three-pointers lead the league. Lorenza Ross leads the SAC with 59 total assists, which goes along with his 13.1 points per game on 57 percent shooting. Choice and Ross are the only Railsplitters scoring more than 10 points per game, as Tim Pierce (Albany, Ga.), Keenan Peterson (College Park, Ga.), Curtis McMillion (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Gerel Simmons (Accokeek, Md.) are tallying right at nine points per.

The Railsplitters are in the midst of the third-best start to a season in program history, aiming for their 13th consecutive win on Wednesday. The Trojans were responsible for putting an end to the second-longest winning streak to open a season in program history, defeating a then 15-0 LMU squad 78-72 on January 14, 2012.

Tip-off between the Railsplitters and Trojans is scheduled for Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. Live stats and an HD video broadcast will be available via www.LMURailsplitters.com, while fans can listen along with Voice of the Railsplitters Rusty Peace at WLMU 91.3 the Gap.
