HARROGATE, Tenn. – Freshman midfielder
Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.) reset her career-high with four goals in the Lincoln Memorial University women's lacrosse team's (0-5, 0-4 SAC) 18-4 loss to the Catawba Indians (4-3, 3-1 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday in Salisbury, N.C.
Things looked good early for the Lady Railsplitters as James followed up a Nicolette Salay goal with her first goal of the match at the 28:23 mark, squaring the game at 1-1. But Catawba closed the opening half on a 14-0 run to carry a commanding 15-1 advantage into the locker room.
The Indians slowed it down in the second half, but extended the lead to 17-1 with goals by Caroline Beggs (26:52) and Meredith Jones (17:48).
It was ultimately too little, too late, but James went on a tear in the final 16 minutes of the match, scoring three times. All three of James' scores were unassisted, while her final goal at the 1:41 mark came off of a free position opportunity.
James notched two new career-highs in the match, tallying four goals and seven shots. She also matched a career-best mark with five shots on goal.
Catawba accounted for a 28-10 shot advantage and a 30-17 ground ball edge. The Lady Railsplitters turned the ball over 19 times, while the Indians committed 16 miscues.
Lincoln Memorial went 6-for-15 on clears. Catawba was nearly perfect in that department, going 12-for-14.
Autumn Beddington (Newburg, Ind.) saw her four-game point streak end, but she led the Lady Railsplitters with four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Freshman netminder
Shannon Novak (Grosse Point Farms, Mich.) registered seven saves on 25 shots faced and matched Beddington's team-leading mark with four ground balls.
James was responsible for seven of the Lady Railsplitters' 10 shots.
The Lady Railsplitters welcome the Tusculum Pioneers to the LMU Lacrosse Complex on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. SAC clash.
