GATLINBURG, Tenn. – Freshman
Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.) found nylon on three separate occasions on Monday afternoon as the Lincoln Memorial University women's lacrosse squad (0-3, 0-1 SAC) fell to the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils (5-0) by a final of 24-5 at the Rocky Top Sports World in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
The Blue Devils scored early in the nonconference clash as Alyssa Shaver found the back of the net 34 seconds into the contest. The Lady Railsplitters would even the match at 1-1 just minutes later when senior
Stacey Dotson (Huntsville, Ala.) pulled a shake and bake on the Lawrence Tech defense and scored the first goal of her short tenure in the Blue and Gray. It was the first goal by an LMU player not scored by James or
Autumn Beddington (Newburgh, Ind.) this season.
Lawrence Tech would then go on a 5-0 run to extend its lead to 6-1, but James drove home her fourth strike of the season at the 23:19 mark to pull the Lady Railsplitters to within five. A 7-0 Blue Devil run over the ensuing passage of play would prove to be too much, though, as Lawrence Tech ballooned its lead to 13-2. Shaver scored three times over that stretch.
The Lady Railsplitters picked up two more goals before the first half came to a close, as back-to-back scores by Beddington and James in a less than two-minute span gave Lincoln Memorial their highest offensive output of the season.
James would cage one more goal before the match came to a close, as the Vero Beach, Fla. native pushed her team-leading goal total to six with a strike at the 8:14 mark of the second stanza. James has tallied at least one goal for the Lady Railsplitters in all three games this season.
Freshman goalie
Shannon Novak (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) turned in another solid performance in net for the Lady Railsplitters, recording her third straight double-digit save game of the season with 13 stonewalls.
The Blue Devils finished with a 49-14 shot disparity, but the Lady Railsplitters put up their highest shot output of the season and also collected a season-best 29 ground balls.
Lawrence Tech's Shaver recorded eight goals and an assist while launching 17 shots in the contest to lead the Blue Devils. Including Shaver, seven different players scored for Lawrence Tech. Ashley Collins and Kadijah Kalo finished with five goals apiece while Paige Holcomb was the only other player with multiple scores, tallying two goals.
The Lady Railsplitters return to South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday, March 11, hosting Wingate with game time set for 2 p.m. at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.
