Lady Railsplitters play Queens to 0-0 draw in LMU Soccer Complex opener

HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Lady Railsplitters (2-1-2, 1-0-1 SAC) opened the LMU Soccer Complex by playing the Queens Royals (3-3-1, 1-0-1 SAC) to a 0-0 double overtime draw in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday in Harrogate, Tenn.

Lincoln Memorial and Queens combined for 48 shots, 17 shots on goal and no goals over 110 minutes of action, as the Lady Railsplitters' Kathryn Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.) made a career-high seven saves while Royals' keeper Tori Danchak had nine stops. It was the third shutout in the past four matches for Lundy, who did not have a single shutout in her first nine career appearances.

The Lady Railsplitters finished with a 27-21 advantage in shot attempts. It was the program's most shot attempts in a scoreless outing since Lincoln Memorial accounted for 29 shots in a 0-0 draw against Catawba in the semifinals of the SAC tournament on November 4, 2007, which the Lady Railsplitters won in a PK shootout.

Maddy Nagy (Viera, Fla.) led the Lady Railsplitters in shots (8) and tied Olivia Thompson (Melbourne, Fla.) for the team lead in shots on goal with three. Michelle Hunter (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada) mustered six shots and a shot on goal, while Caroline Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had four shots and two shots on goal.

The Lady Railsplitters thoroughly tested Danchak in the first half by putting six shots on frame. Two of those attempts were less than 30 seconds apart as a crafty offensive build-up created nice looks for Souza and Thompson in the 29th minute, but Danchak kept the match scoreless with two stops.

The Royals were the aggressors in the second half and the first overtime, putting four shots on frame over that span to only two for Lincoln Memorial. The Lady Railsplitters had the only two close calls in the final 10-minute overtime as Nagy had two shots on goal in the 110th minute, with the best chance coming off of a free kick from 30 yards out.

Saturday marked the second consecutive 0-0 draw in the Lincoln Memorial-Queens series, as the two teams finished in a scoreless tie last season in Charlotte. The Lady Railsplitters are now 1-0-2 in three all-time meetings against Queens.

Through two league contests, the Lady Railsplitters have yet to allow a goal as they kept Brevard off of the board in a 1-0 win in the SAC opener on Wednesday.

Next on the docket, the Lady Railsplitters take on the Tusculum Pioneers in SAC action on Wednesday, September 23 in Greeneville, Tenn. That match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
