HICKORY, N.C. -- Lenoir-Rhyne (6-2, 3-1 SAC) scored twice in the first five minutes and tacked on another goal later in the second half to hand the Lady Railsplitters (2-2-3, 1-1-2 SAC) a 3-1 loss in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday in Hickory, N.C.
The loss ended a streak of two consecutive double-overtime draws for Lincoln Memorial while also halting the Lady Railsplitters' two-match winning streak against the Bears, which dated back to a 2-0 win in the semifinals of the 2013 SAC Championship.
Lenoir-Rhyne buried the Lady Railsplitters in a massive early hole by knocking in two goals less than five minutes into the match. Emmi Dunn tallied both of those goals for the Bears, as she drove home a penalty kick after a foul in the box in the second minute, and then added her second marker in the fifth minute.
Josefin Hedstrom (Burtrask, Sweden) cut the Lady Railsplitters' deficit in half in the seventh minute, rebounding
Maddy Nagy's (Viera, Fla.) shot off of the cross bar to net her first goal of the season.
That would be the extent of Lincoln Memorial's offensive production, though, as the Lady Railsplitters landed just two more shots on goal for the remainder of the match.
Meanwhile, Lenoir-Rhyne added to its lead in the 65th minute when Leah Mullins dribbled the ball down the right side and tallied her ninth goal of the season.
The Bears outshot the Lady Railsplitters 18-7 with a 12-3 advantage in shot on goal attempts. Lincoln Memorial produced two corner kicks while Lenoir-Rhyne created six corners.
Kathryn Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.) matched her career-high with nine saves, tallying seven-plus saves for the third consecutive match. She is the first LMU goalkeeper to accomplish that feat since Stephanie Kwoka did it in 2005.
Olivia Thompson (Melbourne, Fla.) led the Lady Railsplitters with three shot attempts.
The Lady Railsplitters next return to the LMU Soccer Complex to begin a five-match homestand on September 30 against Hiwassee.
