Notes on the Lady Railsplitters:
- Lincoln Memorial lost its third consecutive one-goal match Tuesday at Carson-Newman. Varin Ness' 64
th-minute score proved to be the difference, as she scored her third game-winning goal against the Lady Railsplitters in as many career games against them. That loss officially ended the Lady Railsplitters' playoff chances.
-
Kathryn Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.) gave a valiant effort in goal for the Lady Railsplitters, as she stopped a career-high 15 shots. Her 15 saves were the most in a game by an LMU goalkeeper since Sarah Thompson also had 15 on September 13, 2009 against Southern New Hampshire.
- Lundy's 15 saves also gave her 78 for the season, which is the 10th-best season total in LMU history and tied for the second-best total in the SAC. She has allowed exactly one goal in five of her past six games and has an 87% save percentage over the span. Lundy has played in all 14 of Lincoln Memorial's matches (11 starts) in goal, and every minute over the past six games—including seven overtime periods. Friday will be the senior's final game for the Lady Railsplitters.
- Lincoln Memorial is 1-4-1 in matches played away from the LMU Soccer Complex. They are winless in their last three road matches since a 4-1 triumph at Converse.
-
Caroline Souza (São Paulo, Brazil) leads the team with four goals while
Melissa Carpenter (Jacksonville, Fla.) is second on the team with three.
-
Hanna Ratliff (Somerset, Ky.) has scored twice for the Lady Railsplitters.
Alyssa Berry (St. Joseph, Mich.),
Palisa Chipendo (Brighton, England) and
Kaitlyn Tisch (Tacoma, Wash.) have also accounted for one goal apiece.
Jacquelyn Christoph (Eatonville, Wash.) and
Gabby Garcia (Aurora, Colo.) are the only other players to total a point this season.
- Possession has been a problem for the Lady Railsplitters all season, as they have been outshot in all but two games this season. On average, opponents have outshot LMU 19.6 (9.9 SOG) to 12.2 (5.1 SOG).
- The Lady Railsplitters have struggled to find consistent offensive production this season, as they have only scored 12 goals in 14 games on 171 shots. They place ninth in SAC with 12.2 shots per game and 10th at .86 goals per game. Coker is last in both categories. They have also been blanked seven times this season, which is one short of matching the program record set by the 2002 team.
- Lincoln Memorial is 11th in the SAC with a 7.0% shooting percentage. Brevard is last at 6.7%.
- Both of Lincoln Memorial's conference wins came against the two teams directly below them in the standings in Brevard and Coker. They lost in extra time to three of the four teams directly above them—Anderson, Newberry and Mars Hill. Catawba is the other team in that group.
- Tuesday's loss clinched the fewest wins for a season in program history. Last year's team held the previous low of five. The Lady Railsplitters can tie the program record for losses (11) in a season by losing Friday.
- The Lady Railsplitters end the season by playing six of their final eight matches away from the LMU Soccer Complex.
Notes on the Indians:
- Catawba got off to a great start at 6-1-1, including 5-0 in SAC play. This was highlighted by a six-game winning streak in which the Indians defeated Lenoir-Rhyne and Pfeiffer. They have not won since and are 0-6-1 in their past seven matches, including 0-4-1 in conference play. The Indians have fallen into a tie with Anderson for sixth place in the SAC as a result.
- The Indians have been outscored 19-2 during their seven-game winless streak and 13-1 in their past five conference matches.
- Catawba is 4-2-1 at home but is winless in its last three matches.
- Catawba ranks in the bottom half of the SAC in most offensive and defensive categories. They are seventh in goals per game (1.73), eighth in shots per game (14.3), ninth in goals against average (1.80). However, they have been quite efficient in making the most of their limited shot attempts and place third in the SAC with a 12.2% shooting percentage.
- Caitlin Hill leads the Indians with six goals—five of which have come in conference play. However, she has not scored during Catawba's current seven-game winless streak.
- Bailey Howell and Shelby Vasich are next on the team with four goals apiece. Howell has also chipped in three assists to lead all attackers with 13 points but has also not been present on the scoresheet during Catawba's current winless streak. Hill and Vasich are next at 12 apiece. Vasich has played a part in both Indian goals over the past seven matches—she scored the lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Saint Leo and assisted in the team's 1-1 tie against Anderson.
- Three different Indians have started in goal. Liz Nail has been the most successful of the bunch with a 4-3-1 record, .822 save percentage and three shutouts in eight games (seven starts).
- Catawba has yet to record a shot on goal in five overtime periods this year spanning nearly 50 minutes.
