Notes on the Railsplitters:
-Lincoln Memorial and Catawba met in Salisbury just two days ago in the regular-season finale. With the No. 4 seed and hosting duties for Tuesday's SAC Championship match on the line, the Indians scored the game-winning goal with 59 seconds left in regulation to power a 2-1 win over the Railsplitters. Ian Orr, who assisted on Tim Frederik-Lange's game-tying goal in the 37th minute, tallied the game-winner for the Indians.
Felipe Machado (Ribeirao Preto, Brazil) scored the lone goal of the match for LMU in the 33rd minute off an assist from
Victor Peres (Brasilia, Brazil).
-LMU and Catawba were neck-and-neck in nearly every way in last Saturday's match, finishing with exactly 10 shots and eight corner kicks apiece. However, the Railsplitters landed seven shots on goal to only three for the Indians. Lincoln Memorial logged six shots on goal in the second half, but Catawba keeper Joe Gonzalez saved all six of those attempts to set the stage for Orr's last-minute heroics.
-With his assist on Saturday, Peres extended his point streak to seven straight games dating back to the Railsplitters' 6-1 win over Lees-McRae on October 5. The Brasilia, Brazil native is ranked eighth in the SAC in goals (7), assists (5) and points (19) while ranking seventh in total shot attempts with 54.
-The Railsplitters will be looking to work their way back into the SAC Championship title game for the first time since 2012, when they were handed a stunning 1-0 loss by Anderson. Since that time, Lincoln Memorial has been knocked out of the SAC Championship in the second round twice (2013, 2015) and eliminated in the first round once (2014).
-Junior striker
Danilo da Silva (Campinas, Brazil) is ranked 10th in the SAC in points with 18 (6 goals, 6 assists), but has gone five straight matches without tallying a goal. He last found the back of the net in October 10th's win at Newberry, but does have two assists since that goal. Silva is ranked second in the SAC with 77 shots and has registered at least four shot attempts in six of his last seven appearances.
Notes on the Indians:
-The Indians clinched the SAC Championship's No. 4 seed with Saturday's stunning 2-1 win over the Railsplitters. Prior to that victory, Catawba had lost three of its last four matches and been outscored 6-1 in those three losses.
-Catawba is ranked 10th in the 12-team SAC in shots per game with 11.4, but the Indians are both efficient and productive when they do shoot, ranking second in the league in shot percentage (.153) and fourth in shots on goal percentage (.459). All told, the Indians are ranked sixth in the SAC in total goals with 28 and goals per game with 1.75.
-Three Catawba players have accounted for at least 10 points this season: Daniele Proch has seven goals and seven assists, Ian Orr has five goals and two assists, and Tim Frederick-Lange has five goals and one assist. Jack Pettett has also been productive for the Indians with two goals and three assists, which includes the assist on Orr's game-winner against Lincoln Memorial.
-Sophomore Joe Gonzalez is expected to get the start for Catawba in goal. Gonzalez picked up the win against the Railsplitters after making six saves over 90 minutes of work. Prior to that, he made a season-high eight saves in a 2-0 loss to No. 1 nationally-ranked Wingate. For the season, Gonzalez has made 44 saves and compiled a .733 save percentage.
-Catawba is back in the SAC Tournament for the first time since 2013, when they suffered a 2-0 loss at Queens in the quarterfinal round. The Indians have not advanced to the second round of the SAC Tournament since 2011.
Series History:
-Saturday's loss at Catawba dropped the Railsplitters to 12-7 in the all-time series. Prior to that, Lincoln Memorial had won 10 of the last 11 head-to-head meetings.
-The Railsplitters are 4-4 all-time in Salisbury, N.C. and looking to snap a two-game skid on Catawba's home field. Lincoln Memorial last defeated the Indians on the road in 2012, a 2-0 victory.
-The Railsplitters and Indians have met twice in the SAC Tournament, with Lincoln Memorial coming out victorious in both of those meetings. Lincoln Memorial eliminated the Indians in the first round of the 2012 SAC Championship with a 1-0 win in Harrogate. In 2007, the Railsplitters also throttled Catawba in the first round of the SAC Tournament with a 4-0 win in Harrogate.
