SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Lady Railsplitters (2-7, 1-4 SAC) ended their four-game losing streak Tuesday with a decisive 4-1 victory at Converse College (6-4-1, 3-2 Conference Carolinas) in what was surely their best performance of the season.
Hanna Ratliff (Somerset, Ky.) and
Caroline Souza (São Paulo, Brazil) each added two goals and an assist to lead the offensive charge.
Ratliff, making her first start of the season, opened up the scoring in the ninth minute after receiving a through ball from Souza. It was easily Lincoln Memorial's quickest score to open a game this season and also broke a 309-minute scoring drought. Twenty-one minutes later, a failed Valkyrie clear caromed off Ratliff's foot and past the goalkeeper for her second score. The goals were her first two of the season.
Converse cut the deficit in half just three minutes later when Melissa Carlyle found the back of the net. The 2-1 score held for the remainder of the half.
Souza headed home Ratliff's corner kick to give the Lady Railsplitters a 3-1 advantage in the 56th minute. Just five minutes later she blasted in a long goal on what was supposed to be an attempted cross. But the ball sailed top shelf over the Valkyrie goalkeeper for a 4-1 lead. Souza's multi-goal effort gives her three on the season, which leads all Lady Railsplitters.
Converse outshot Lincoln Memorial 15-10 (8-7 on goal).
Goalkeeper
Kathryn Lundy made a season-high seven saves to earn her second win of the season. It was the first time she has played a full 90 minutes in a game this season.
The fourth goal surpassed Lincoln Memorial's total of three from the team's first eight games. Tuesday's match also broke a 12-game streak in which the Lady Railsplitters failed to score multiple goals in a game. The last time they did so was a 4-1 victory at Coker on October 17, 2015.
The Lady Railsplitters will conclude their three-game road stretch Saturday, October 8, in Newberry, S.C. to take on Newberry College at 3 p.m. in a South Atlantic Conference showdown. Live stats and video links will be available online at www.LMURailsplitters.com.

- Tuesday's victory was the Lady Railsplitters' first on the road since the 4-1 victory at Coker.
- The win also ensured the team would not set the worst start in program history. That honor still belongs to the inaugural 1994 team, who began the season 1-8-1 before winning its final six games to finish 7-8-1.
