Wolves welcome Lady Railsplitters for SAC tilt Monday

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Lady Railsplitters (2-7, 1-4 SAC) look to snap their four-game conference losing streak Monday when they travel to Newberry, S.C. to face off against the Newberry College Wolves (4-8, 2-4 SAC) in a South Atlantic Conference showdown at 12 p.m. Lincoln Memorial earned its second win of the season Tuesday with a 4-1 nonconference victory at Converse College, while Newberry is coming off a 2-0 win Wednesday at home against Anderson. The match was pushed back a day due to Hurricane Mathew.

Notes on the Lady Railsplitters:

- Lincoln Memorial's four goals against Converse on Tuesday more than doubled the team's season total of three entering the match. It was the first time the Lady Railsplitters scored multiple goals in a game since a 4-1 win at Anderson on October 17, 2015—a span of 12 matches.

- Hanna Ratliff (Somerset, Ky.) and Caroline Souza (São Paulo, Brazil) scored two goals apiece in Tuesday's victory. This marked the first time multiple Lady Railsplitters tallied multi-goal games since September 30, 2015 against Hiwassee. Ratliff (4) and Souza (2), along with four other players, accomplished the feat in an 18-0 victory.

- Souza's two goals Tuesday gave her three overall for the season, which leads all Lady Railsplitters. Ratliff is second on the team with two after her multi-goal effort.

- Melissa Carpenter (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Kaitlyn Tisch (Tacoma, Wash.) have accounted for one goal apiece. Alyssa Berry (St. Joseph, Mich.) is the only other player to total a point this season; she assisted on Tisch's goal against Brevard.

- Ratliff's ninth-minute goal snapped a 300-minute scoreless drought for the Lady Railsplitters dating back to Carpenter's 61st-minute goal at Queens on September 17.

- The Lady Railsplitters have struggled to find consistent offensive production this season, as they have only scored seven goals in nine games on 93 shots. They place 11th out of the 12-team SAC in both categories.

- Lincoln Memorial is averaging 10.3 shots per match, good for 10th out of 12 teams in the SAC. But the Lady Railsplitters' 7.5 shooting percentage is the lowest mark in the SAC by a wide margin. Brevard is next with an 8.3 percent mark.

- The Lady Railsplitters conclude a three-game road stretch Saturday. The team is in the midst of playing six of its final eight matches away from the LMU Soccer Complex.

- Lincoln Memorial's 1-4 conference record is good for 10th in the South Atlantic Conference. A win would move the Lady Railsplitters into a tie with Newberry.

- Tuesday's win also ensured the team would not set its worst start in program history. That honor still belongs to the inaugural 1994 team, who began the season 1-8-1 before winning its final six games to finish 7-8-1.

Notes on the Wolves:

- Wednesday's win against Anderson moved Newberry ahead of Lincoln Memorial in the SAC standings and into an eighth-place tie with Mars Hill.

- The Wolves are 4-1 at home this season, including 2-1 in conference play. All four wins have come via shutout. Their lone home loss was 4-1 to Carson-Newman. Overall they have outscored opponents 15-4 at the Smith Road Complex.

- In contrast, Newberry is 0-7 in matches away from the Smith Road Complex and has been shut out six times. Opponents have outscored the Wolves 15-1 in these contests.

- The Wolves have averaged 1.33 goals and 14.4 shots per game. Both rank eighth in the SAC.

- Midfielder Alyssa Ortega leads the team with eight goals. She is tied with Anderson's Tina Shakes for third in the SAC behind Carson-Newman players Julianne Herrity (13) and Lauren Wade (11) in goals scored.

- Ortega and forward Erika Linch have combined for 13 of the Wolves' 16 goals scored. Elizabeth Gutierrez has added a pair of goals and Sara Silvestro has also scored one. Daphne Heyaime is the only other player to tally a point this season; she assisted on one of Ortega's goals against Coker.

- Silvestro scored Newberry's lone road goal of the season in a 2-1 loss at Wingate.

- Goalkeepers KodiJean Johnson, Korina Martinez and Madison Putman have combined for a conference-high 103 saves. Lincoln Memorial's goalkeepers rank second in the conference with 59 saves. Johnson and Martinez both rank in the top five on goalie save percentage.

- Newberry is 0-2 in games that have extended past 90 minutes. The Wolves have been outshot 16-1 in overtime in those contests.

Series History:

- The all-time series is tied 6-6-1. Newberry won 2-1 last season in Harrogate. It was the Wolves' first win in the series since 2011. Newberry still has not won a home match against Lincoln Memorial since 2011.

- Newberry took a 2-0 lead in last year's meeting on goals in the 30th minute by Valeria Newcomb and 59th minute by Elizabeth Gutierrez. The Lady Railsplitters responded with a 77th-minute goal by Olivia Thompson, but the Wolves held on for the win.

- Lincoln Memorial won the last time the teams met in Newberry 1-0 in 2014.
