Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse falls to 20th-ranked Queens in SAC opener 20-8

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The 20th-ranked Queens Royals (4-1, 1-0 SAC) scored twice in the first 30 seconds to fuel a wire-to-wire 20-8 victory over the Railsplitters (2-1, 0-1 SAC) in the South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse opener on Saturday afternoon in Charlotte, N.C.

Queens led 12-6 after three quarters before adding eight goals in the fourth quarter to account for the highest-scoring output ever allowed by the Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse program. That outburst also surpassed the total number of goals the Railsplitters had given up in their first two matches combined this season, as Emmanuel scored four in the season opener and North Greenville tallied seven last Wednesday.

Adam Golia (Victoria, British Columbia) led the Railsplitters with three goals and an assist on eight shots and five shots on goal. Dylan Neisler (Detroit, Mich.) scored two goals on a match-leading 14 shots and six shots on goal. Kairos Bodley (Orlando, Fla.), Billy Kopsky (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Justin Stewart (Copiague, N.Y.) added a goal apiece for Lincoln Memorial in the loss.

Queens outshot the Railsplitters 48-42 and controlled possession by going 22-for-31 at the face-off x. Lincoln Memorial was nearly perfect in clearance once again, going 19-for-22, but couldn't do much to stop the Royals in that department, as Queens went 16-for-18 on clear opportunities.

The Royals came flying out of the starting gate, scoring two goals before 30 seconds had even elapsed. Spencer Corkery scored the first at the 14:42 mark, while Jesse Olliver tallied the second of the game just six seconds later.

Lincoln Memorial cut the deficit in half on a man-up goal by Neisler at the 11:55 mark, but goals from Corkery, Garrett Chan and Garrett Sadler helped the Royals end the first quarter with a 5-1 advantage.

The Railsplitters bounced back in the second quarter and used goals from Kopsky, Golia and Neisler to pull within two at 6-4. However, the Royals tallied four times in the final 3:17 of the quarter, including twice in the final minute, to carry a 10-5 lead into the half.

The two teams combined for only three goals in the third quarter, with Queens getting the better end of that bargain on goals from Sadler and Gavin Perry. Stewart accounted for the Railsplitters' goal that period at the 8:04 mark.

While already sporting a six-goal lead, Queens poured it on in the fourth quarter, opening with a 3-0 run to make it 15-6 less than three minutes in. Bodley scored in unassisted fashion at the 12:08 mark, but the Royals racked up five more goals from the 11:22 to 6:19 mark to make it 20-7.

Golia tallied the final goal of the match for the Railsplitters at the 1:46 mark, notching his 13th goal of the season, which matches his output from the entire 2015 season.

Queens scooped up 36 ground balls compared to 24 for the Railsplitters. Kyle Fleck (Toledo, Ohio) led LMU with five ground ball recoveries, while goalkeeper Joe Medel (Virginia Beach, Va.) had four and three other players finished with three apiece.

Medel fell to 2-1 on the season after allowing 17 goals with nine saves in a shade over 49 minutes of work. His counterpart, Eric Dolan, moved to 4-1 after allowing seven goals and making 10 saves in 50 minutes.

The Railsplitters return to action on Monday, March 7 when they welcome Notre Dame De Namur from California for a nonconference showdown beginning at 4 p.m.
