14th-ranked Royals overpower Lady Railsplitters 23-4

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The 14th-ranked Queens (6-2, 3-0 SAC) women's lacrosse team proved to be too much for the Lady Railsplitters (3-6, 0-4 SAC) to handle as they defeated LMU 23-4 Saturday afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex.

Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.) accounted for two of LMU's goals as she scored her 16th goal of the season with 27:38 remaining in the second half and her 17th goal with 12:03 left. Jeni Schorling (Westerville, Ohio) scored her fourth goal of the season with 19:30 left, followed by Amara Moss' (Woodbridge, Va.) 23rd goal of the season 74 seconds later. Shannon Novak (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) and Sara Loveday (Seymour, Tenn.) split time in goal, with Novak grabbing all 11 of LMU's total saves.

Queens was led by Brittany Larranaga and Sarah Bell, who each recorded a hat trick. Kelly Dowd and Abigail Paulus each notched two goals to their tally while 13 other players scored a goal for the Royals.

The Royals had 38 shots to seven for LMU. They also had 26 ground balls to 11 from the Lady Railsplitters and also outdid LMU 16-12 on draw controls.

The match was scoreless for the first two minutes before Queens broke the drought with a goal from Hannah Scott. Queens then took advantage of LMU turnovers and winning the draw to roll out to a 16-0 lead at the half. 

The Royals then outscored LMU 7-4 in the second half to claim the 23-4 victory.
