WISE, Va. -- The Lady Railsplitter lacrosse team fell to 3-10 on the season as they fell to UVa-Wise (10-2) 15-2 Wednesday evening at the Carl Smith Stadium.
LMU's goals came from
Abby Hoskins (Louisville, Ky.) and
Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.).
Wise was led by Kristin Gobbi and Catherine Dina who each notched a hat trick.
The match was closer than the score indicated as Wise only out-shot LMU by a 29-21 margin. The Cavaliers also out-drew LMU 10-9 and had a 29-23 advantage in ground balls.
The Lady Railsplitters were unable to generate any offense in the first half as the Cavalier defense posted the 8-0 shutout and held LMU to only six shots.
Hoskins put LMU on the board early in the second half as she scored with 28:10 remaining to make the score 8-1. Wise then scored three more goals before James scored LMU's other goal with 14:04 left. The Cavaliers would then score four more goals down the stretch to hold on for the 15-2 victory.
The Lady Railsplitters return to South Atlantic Conference play as they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne for a Saturday meeting with the Bears. First draw is set for 1 p.m. in Hickory, North Carolina.
