HICKORY, N.C. -- The Lady Railsplitter lacrosse team (3-11, 0-7 SAC) more than doubled their point total from their last contest, but Lenoir-Rhyne (9-6, 6-1 SAC) proved to be too much to overcome as the Bears defeated LMU 19-5 in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Moretz Stadium.
Amara Moss (Woodbridge, Va.) led LMU with a hat trick, while Jasmine Click (Clermont, Fla.) and
Bre'Asia James (Vero Beach, Fla.) each knotted a goal apiece.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by Claire Wach's four goals and four assists. Rachel Elmore and Gabby Sousa each added in three goals for the Bears.
The Bears rolled out to the 4-0 lead before Moss put the Lady Railsplitters on the board with her 33rd goal of the season at the 20:05 mark in the first half. After five more L-R goals, Moss scored again to make the score 9-2 with 9:07 remaining. Neither team scored for the rest of the frame.
Wach came out for the Bears and scored 30 seconds into the second half, only to be answered by a goal from James 13 seconds later, which was her 25th of the season. L-R then rolled off five goals over the next nine minutes. With 16:36 left, Moss scored her third goal to make the score 15-4. Click added in her 21st goal of the season with 8:25 remaining but L-R would score four times over the final 13 minutes to earn the 19-5 victory.
LMU returns to action next Saturday as they host Coker in the season finale. First draw is set for 4 p.m. at the LMU Soccer Complex.
