Quick Hits:
-Lincoln Memorial aims to bounce back after being swept by No. 24 Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday in Hickory, North Carolina. Everything went the Bears' way in game one, as Lenoir-Rhyne scattered 17 hits and held the Lady Railsplitters to a mere three hits in a 10-0 win in five innings. In game two, the Lady Railsplitters rallied from a 4-0 deficit with a four-run outburst in the top of the sixth, fueled by
Samantha Smith's (Knoxville, Tenn.) fourth home run of the season, but Lenoir-Rhyne answered in the bottom of that inning to capture a 5-4 win and complete the sweep. Junior
Jennifer Moose (Statesville, N.C.) went 5 for 7 in the doubleheader with a pair of doubles and an RBI, but LMU fell to 3-22 all-time against Lenoir-Rhyne.
-LMU head coach
Natalie Layden needs one win to reach 100 for her career, as the fourth-year head coach enters Wednesday's twinbill with a 99-89 record at Lincoln Memorial.
-A sweep on Wednesday would assure the Lady Railsplitters a spot in the SAC Championship field. Lincoln Memorial enters the final week of the regular season tied with Newberry in seventh place in the league standings with a 7-11 mark, while Mars Hill is just a game back of the Lady Railsplitters at 6-12. The top eight teams in the final standings qualify for the SAC Championship, which is being hosted by Coker in Hartsville, South Carolina for the second straight year. The Lady Railsplitters have an outside shot of finishing as high as fourth in the SAC, as Wingate is currently holding that position with an 11-7 league record.
-The first game of doubleheaders has been a concern for the Lady Railsplitters this season. Lincoln Memorial has lost the first game of five straight doubleheaders with little to no offensive output to show in those contests. The Lady Railsplitters lost the first game of twinbills against Catawba (3-1), Brevard (2-1), Queens (11-3), Carson-Newman (3-0) and Lenoir-Rhyne (10-0), scoring just five combined runs in those contests. In the second game of each of those series, the Lady Railsplitters went 3-2 with 32 combined runs.
-Moose has reached base safely in eight straight games with a four-game hitting streak intact. The Statesville, North Carolina native has multiple hits in three straight games, as she went 2 for 3 with two RBI in game two against Carson-Newman before collecting five hits in the doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne. Over her last eight games, Moose has lifted her batting average from .319 to .348, which she has accumulated over a team-leading 135 at-bats.

Notes on the Lions:
-Mars Hill needs at worst a split on Wednesday to have a chance to qualify for postseason play, as the Lions have lost five of their last six SAC games to slip to ninth place in the league standings with a 6-12 mark. Mars Hill played four games last weekend, splitting a home doubleheader against Queens in SAC action on Saturday before splitting with Limestone in nonconference action on Sunday. Against Limestone, the Lions were battered 13-2 in five innings in game one, but bounced back with a 12-3 five-inning victory in game two.
-Despite sitting nine games below .500, Mars Hill is a dangerous offensive team that is sporting a .298/.367/.431 slash line, ranking third in the SAC in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. The Lions have racked up 52 doubles and 26 home runs this season, ranking in the top half of the league in both of those categories.
-The Lions are led offensively by junior Kayleigh Jonas and senior Erin Vickery. Jonas is batting .388 with a .631 slugging percentage, as the infielder has produced 13 doubles, four home runs and 23 RBI. Vickery is hitting .361 with a .593 slugging percentage, four doubles and a team-leading seven home runs. Sophomore Taylor Lail is also well above the .300 mark with a .344 batting average, eight doubles, five home runs and a team-leading 29 RBI. Krista Romine (.296, 7 2B, 1 HR, 11 RBI) and Jamie Booze (.313, 2 3B, 10 RBI) are also players to watch in the Lions lineup.
-While Mars Hill's offense has produced consistently, the pitching staff is among the worst in the SAC, ranking last in earned run average with a 4.81 mark and second-to-last in batting average against by allowing opposing hitter a .318 clip. Juniors Shelby Culler and Sydney Elkin have both thrown 77 1/3 innings this season. Culler is 7-6 with a 3.53 ERA and 59 strikeouts over that span, while Elkin is 5-10 with a 5.16 ERA and 42 K's. Senior Booze has thrown 37 innings, accumulating a 5.86 ERA and an 0-3 record.
-Mars Hill is 7-7 at home this season as compared to a 5-15 mark on the road. The Lions have posted a batting average nearly 40 points higher at home (.321) than on the road (.283).

Series History:

-In game one of last season's series at Dorothy Neely Field, the Lady Railsplitters captured a 2-1 win on
Emilee Solomon's 10th-inning walk-off single. In game two, the Lady Railsplitters rallied from a one-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh and notched the 7-6 win on Moose's walk-off single.
