Notes on the Lady Railsplitters:
-LMU tallied its first victory of the season on Wednesday at the LMU Soccer Complex, knocking off previously-undefeated Brevard in a lopsided 1-0 match. Freshman forward
Kaitlyn Tisch (Tacoma, Wash.) scored a brilliant goal off of a double move in the 24th minute of the game, and LMU never took their foot off of the pedal as they cruised to a much-needed victory and snapped a three-match losing streak. The Lady Railsplitters also had solid chances throughout the match from junior midfielder
Melissa Carpenter (Jacksonville, Fla.), who had a first-half strike shoot past the goalkeeper only to be denied by the far post, sophomore midfielder
Alyssa Berry (St. Joseph, Mich.) and sophomore forward
Palisa Chipendo (Brighton, England). Lincoln Memorial outshot Brevard 23-9 in the match, and produced four more shots on goal than the Tornados.
-Tisch's goal against Brevard was her first career collegiate goal, and only the second goal converted by the Lady Railsplitters this season and first since the season opener against Bellarmine, which was scored by sophomore forward
Caroline Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) in the 27th minute. Her goal ended a more than 250-minute scoreless stretch for the Lady Railsplitters.
-Lincoln Memorial's victory over Brevard played true with what head coach
Helio D'Anna described as a "reset to the season" for the Lady Railsplitters. After opening the season with three very difficult losses against quality opponents, two of which came against teams ranked inside the top 15 nationally, LMU was able to put one in the win column where it's most important: South Atlantic Conference play. That was quickly reflected in the SAC standings, as Wednesday's victory pushed LMU out of last place up to fifth in the standings. Brevard, meanwhile, fell from third place down to eighth after losing in Harrogate.
-Commanding the defense so far this season has been senior goalkeeper Kathryn
Lundy (Pinckney, Mich.) and sophomore netminder Brooke
Taylor (White Pine, Tenn.). Lundy has logged 237:39 minutes of action on the year, making eight saves on 36 shots faced. Taylor has proven to be a good option as well, as she has played 122:21 minutes and made seven saves on 20 shots faced.
-With the win over Brevard, Lincoln Memorial pushed its record in season-opening SAC matches to 6-4 since 2007. Of those 10 conference openers, three have been against Brevard and all three have resulted in LMU victories.
Notes on Queens:
-Queens has started the 2016 season perfect at home and winless on the road. The Royals' three losses came against Lynn and No. 8 nationally-ranked Rollins out of the Sunshine State Conference, as well as a South Atlantic Conference loss to Tusculum in Greenville, Tenn. on Wednesday. Their two victories came at home against Limestone and Lees-McCrae, whom the Royals outscored by a combined 5-0 margin. All told this season, the Royals have outscored their opponents 8-7 and outshot them 80-72.
-In its most recent outing, Queens outshot Tusculum 16-7, but conceded a free-kick goal in the 81st minute that put the Pioneers on top and resulted in a 2-1 loss in the SAC opener.
-The Royals are led by freshman midfielder Thea Mallett, who has four goals and one assist on 16 total shots through the first five games of the 2016 campaign. Also contributing are junior midfielder Alana Jefferson and sophomore forward Charlotte Ring, who have a combined three goals and two assists on 27 shots and 13 shots on goal.
-Rachel Quest will be in goal for Queens, as she has started in and played every minute of all five matches for the Royals this season. Quest has logged 450:53 total minutes of action and made 27 saves on 71 shots faced with only seven goals allowed, earning her two shutouts on the 2016 campaign.
-The Royals tied for third place in the SAC last season with an 8-2-1 conference mark. That season also got off to a slow start, as Queens opened 1-2-1 in league play before winning six of its last seven regular-season league bouts.
Series History:
-Lincoln Memorial and Queens have faced each other only three times, with all three matches occurring since the Royals joined the SAC in 2013. LMU leads the overall series 1-0-2, with the lone win coming on a 2-0 victory in 2013 at the LMU Soccer Complex. Both the 2014 and 2015 matches resulted in double-overtime 0-0 draws.
-In last season's matchup, the Lady Railsplitters outshot the Royals 27-21, but both teams were virtually even in all the other statistical categories. Neither squad could find a breakthrough, however, and the match ended in a draw.
