HARROGATE, Tenn. – Powered by monster nights from
Lindsey Nartker and
Kiera Holland as well as a stout block, the Lady Railsplitters (10-10, 5-7 SAC) plowed through the Coker Cobras (10-12, 4-9 SAC) for a 25-20, 25-11, 25-16 win in South Atlantic Conference action on Friday night at Mary Mars Gym.
Nartker compiled 13 kills on a ridiculous .522 attack percentage and Holland added 10 kills on a .421 clip, as Lincoln Memorial posted a season-high .348 hitting percentage as a team, which is the program's highest mark since hitting .380 against Mars Hill on October 25, 2016.
Rylee Storms and
Tone Gill added five kills apiece, while
Alicia Kessler had four.
Olivia Brock (20) and
Danielle Stachura (10) combined for 30 assists, while
Erica Whiteaker led all players with 16 digs.
The Lady Railsplitters took care of business on the defensive side to back the team's strong offensive effort. Lincoln Memorial compiled 11 total blocks and limited the Cobras to a forgettable .059 attack percentage. Gill led the Lady Railsplitters' effort in front of the net, breaking the program record for blocks in a three-set match with nine.
Bethany Prochnow and Taylor du Bray led Coker with six kills apiece, while Alexis Berles and Madison Bingle chipped in five each. Christen Bragg compiled a match-high 21 assists and also led the team with eight digs.
The Lady Railsplitters rode Nartker's seven error-free kills and a .371 attack percentage to a hard-fought, wire-to-wire win in the opening set. A kill from Storms and two more by Holland helped the Lady Railsplitters score the first four points of the frame. Lincoln Memorial continued to control the pace after that as three consecutive kills by Nartker increased the Lady Railsplitter lead to 12-5. Later in the set, du Bray cut LMU's lead to 16-11 on a kill, but LMU pushed its lead back to seven at 18-11 on a solo block by Gill. After burning its second timeout, Coker won six straight points to close the gap to 18-17. However, Nartker chalked up two more kills over the next three rallies to give LMU some breathing room. Lincoln Memorial never relinquished the lead and closed the set on a 3-0 run to win it 25-20.
Lincoln Memorial kept it rolling in the second set, hitting .368 while holding the Cobras to a dreadful -.036 attack percentage. Coker scored the first point of the set, but it was all Lady Railsplitters after that. A kill from Brock sparked a 5-0 scoring run that put Lincoln Memorial up 9-2 early in the frame. The Cobras made a brief push to trim the deficit to 12-6 on a kill from du Bray, but Lincoln Memorial closed the set on a 13-5 run to rout the Cobras 25-11.
Coker had the early edge in the third set, winning the first three points. However, Lincoln Memorial quickly gained control, rallying off a 9-1 run aided by four Coker attack errors to grab a 9-4 lead. The Cobras pulled themselves back together for a moment and made it 9-7 on a block, but LMU won seven consecutive points to take command. Coker made it mildly interesting late in the frame with a 5-0 run, which trimmed the Lady Railsplitters' lead to 21-15. However, kills from Holland and Storms capped a 4-1 closing run.
The Lady Railsplitters are back in action on Saturday when they welcome the Newberry Wolves to Mars Gym for a 2 p.m. SAC match.
