ROME, Ga. – The LMU women's lacrosse team was outscored 8-1 in the second half and fell 12-6 at Shorter in the 2017 season opener Saturday afternoon.
Jasmin Click (Clermont, Fla.) led the way with three goals as she picked up her first hat trick of the season and fifth of her career.
Amara Moss (Woodbridge, Va.) scored two goals and had four ground balls while
Zoe Zervos (Ithaca, N.Y.) added in a goal. Heather Roche (Vero Beach, Fla.) led the team with five ground balls while goalie
Shannon Novak (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) had four saves.
Moss got things going early, scoring the first goal of the season with 26:42 left in the half. Shorter evened up the score 19 seconds later. Zervos then scored her first career goal with 23:13 left to put LMU ahead 2-1. Shorter would again tie the score up a couple minutes later. Back to back goals by Click put LMU ahead 4-2 with 20:50 remaining and she would add her third goal of the day about 10 minutes later to give LMU the 5-2 lead. Shorter would score twice down the stretch to make the score 5-4 at the half.
The Hawks would come out and score eight unanswered goals in the second half. Moss scored with 3:00 left in the game but LMU was held to only seven shot attempts in the half.
The Lady Railsplitters will have two weeks off before travelling to face Alabama-Huntsville on Feb. 25.
