HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Railsplitters (2-1) closed on a 9-1 run to defeat the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks (2-1) 15-7 at the LMU Lacrosse Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
Kyle Arcuri (Patchogue, N.Y.) piled up five goals and two assists to lead Lincoln Memorial offensively, while goalie
Joe Medel (Virginia Beach, Va.) made 10 saves to lock down a Roberts Wesleyan team that combined for 41 goals through its first two matches of the season. Â Â
Â
Arcuri was one of nine players to tally a goal in the match for the Railsplitters.
Adam Golia (Victoria, British Columbia) logged three goals and three assists, while
Kairos Bodley (Orlando, Fla.) was the only other LMU player with multiple points, notching two on a goal and an assist. That balanced effort helped the Railsplitters score their most goals since racking up 22 against Notre Dame de Namur on March 7, 2016.
Â
Lincoln Memorial outshot the Redhawks 34-24 and finished with a 25-17 edge in shots on goal. The Railsplitters also grabbed 39 groundballs to only 26 for Roberts Wesleyan while producing a narrow 13-12 advantage in face-off wins. The Railsplitters were also nearly perfect on clearances, going 14-for-17 while holding the Redhawks to a 12-for-21 effort.
Â
Roberts Wesleyan scored two goals at the tail end of the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead, but
Nick Borriello (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) found the back of the net off of a pass from Arcuri with eight seconds left in the quarter to tie it at 3-3 through 15 minutes of action.
Â
After more than 10 scoreless minutes to start the second quarter, the Redhawks took the lead at the 4:39 mark on a goal by Brady Martin. However, Golia scored eight seconds later and Bodley put another one in with 14 seconds left in the half to send the Railsplitters into the break with a 5-4 lead.
Â
Lincoln Memorial and Roberts Wesleyan were tied at 6-6 after Cody Menzies scored at the 10-minute mark of the third quarter, but the Railsplitters would dominate the final 25 minutes, ending the match with a 9-1 scoring barrage.
Â
Arcuri scored twice, while Golia scored once to end the third quarter and send the Railsplitters into the final quarter with a 9-6 lead. Alex Bianchi briefly halted that run with a goal at the 12:34 mark of the fourth, but six different players scored for the Railsplitters during a 6-0 finish that blew the match wide open. Included in that was freshman
Chad Walters' (Marietta, Ga.) first career goal with 2:53 left in regulation.
Â
Bianchi led Roberts Wesleyan with two goals and an assist, while Menzies produced two goals. AJ Hemms and Brady Martin had a goal and an assist for the East Coast Conference affiliate. Keith Keehn played all 60 minutes in goal for the Redhawks and made 10 saves over that span.
Â
The Railsplitters will wrap up their three-match homestand on March 1 when they host Tennessee Wesleyan at 3:30 at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.Â
