HARROGATE, Tenn. -- The Railsplitters (3-1) reset the program's single-match scoring record and captured their third straight win with a 23-11 walloping of the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs (1-3) on a rain-soaked Tuesday afternoon at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.
Â
Ten different players scored at least one goal for Lincoln Memorial, who tallied the most goals in the program's three-year history, surpassing the 22-goal outburst against Notre Dame de Namur on March 7, 2016. The Railsplitters also matched the longest winning streak in program history, as the 2016 team also reeled off three straights wins from March 24 to April 3.
Â
Adam Golia (Victoria, British Columbia) and
Chad Walters (Marietta, Ga.) notched five goals apiece to lead Lincoln Memorial's offensive explosion, while
Kyle Arcuri (Patchogue, N.Y.) posted two goals, four assists and five groundball recoveries.
Hunter Clark (Marietta, Ga.) pitched in three goals,
Nick Borriello (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) had two goals and an assist, and
Khanan Bodley (Orlando, Fla.) tacked on two goals.
Craig Settles (Lexington, Ky.) and
Richie Russo (Wantagh, N.Y.) logged two assists apiece.
Â
The Railsplitters recovered 40 groundballs compared to 34 for the Bulldogs and also went 17-for-21 clearances. Despite the massive scoring disparity, Tennessee Wesleyan won 21 of the match's 37 face-offs. The Railsplitters outshot the Bulldogs 37-32 and landed 27 of their 37 shots on goal.
Â
Roderick Williams accounted for more than half of the Bulldogs' offense, scoring six goals and adding an assist. Ian Gonzalez chipped in two goals and an assist, while Drew Wassenaar had a goal and three assists.
Â
The Railsplitters opened on a 4-0 run before Tennessee Wesleyan finally got on the board with a goal from Nicolas Goldschmitt with 2:55 left in the first quarter. Lincoln Memorial followed that up by scoring three more unanswered goals to extend their cushion to 7-1 on a goal from Golia at the 13:51 mark of the second quarter.
Â
The Bulldogs briefly stopped the bleeding with Williams' first goal with 11:10 remaining in the half, but Lincoln Memorial churned out a 7-0 run after that to build a commanding 14-2 lead. Five different players scored during that run before Williams scored again with three seconds left in the half to send LMU into the break with a 14-3 lead.
Â
The Railsplitters led 20-8 at the end of three quarters. Bodley tallied the Railsplitters' record-breaking goal with 8:02 left in the fourth, and Lincoln Memorial waltzed to the finish from there.
Â
Three different goalies combined for the win for the Railsplitters.
Joe Medel (Virginia Beach, Va.) played the entire first half and allowed just three goals with three saves over 30 minutes of work before giving way to
Jeffrey Handman (Tampa, Fla.) and
Kyle Deriemacker (Chesterfield, Mich.) down the stretch. That pair each made two saves over 15 minutes of action apiece.
Â
The Railsplitters will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Rome, Ga. to face Shorter at 1 p.m.Â
