Women's lacrosse stamps out Flames, 17-4

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The LMU women's lacrosse team easily handled Lee University 17-4 Monday afternoon. It was their largest margin of victory so far this season.

Zoe Zervos (Ithaca, N.Y.) led the way for the Blue and Gray with four goals, two assists, two ground balls and three draws won. Jasmin Click (Clermont, Fla.) had a hat trick with three goals, an assist, three ground balls and two draws won. Heather Roache (Vero Beach, Fla.) had two goals and three ground balls while Kennedy Buechner (Stafford, Va.) had two goals. Shannon Novak (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) had 14 saves while only allowing four goals.

Brianne Schapira led Lee with two goals.

The Lady Railsplitters scored the first six goals of the match and led 9-1 at the half. Zervos got things going with the free position goal at the 25:05 mark. The Lady Railsplitters would add goals by Buechner, Click and Roache before going on a five minute drought, which was ended with goals by Zervos and Click 18 seconds apart. Zervos would get her third goal of the half with 20 seconds left.

LMU would outscore the Flames 8-3 in the second half, which saw the Lady Railsplitters take a 15-2 lead with 18 minutes remaining. Schapira would score both of her goals late in the half to cut the lead to 15-4, but a goal by Roache and the first career goal by defender McKenzie Edds (Maynardville, Tenn.) put LMU ahead 17-4 with less than four minutes remaining as they would hold on for the win.

LMU (3-5) returns to South Atlantic Conference play Wednesday when they host Lenoir-Rhyne.
