HARROGATE, Tenn. – LMU took the early 2-0 lead, but the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears roared back for the 17-3 win Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, LMU drops to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Casey Kelly (Ellenwood, Ga.) and
Heather Roache (Vero Beach, Fla.) led the Lady Railsplitters with two goals each. Kelly also had two caused turnovers.
Jasmin Click (Clermont, Fla.) added in a goal, an assist and two draws won while
Zoe Zervos (Ithaca, N.Y.) had a goal.
Kennedy Buechner (Stafford, Va.) also had a goal and two ground balls.
Shannon Novak (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) had 10 saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne was led by Gabby Sousa and Brooke Ouderkirk with three goals apiece.
LMU went ahead 2-0 on goals from Buechner and Click. The Bears then scored three unanswered goals to take the lead. A goal by Zervos tied the game at 3-3 with 14:29 left in the half. Ouderkirk would score with 1:49 left in the half to give L-R the 4-3 lead at the intermission.
After a pair of Bear goals, Kelly scored the free position goal with 25:53 left in the game. Lenoir-Rhyne would then roll off six goals over the next 13 minutes. The Lady Railsplitters would score three straight goals to cut the lead to 12-7 off of a goal by Kelly and a pair of Roache goals. Sousa later scored a free position goal with 2:20 left to put the Bears ahead 13-7.
LMU will host ninth-ranked Queens this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
