Quick Hits:
-In game one against Wingate, the Lady Railsplitters went 1-for-7 with runners on base and 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position as the Bulldogs captured a 6-0 win.
Dakotah Fraley (Walkersville, Md.) went 2-for-2 with a walk to reach base in all three plate appearances, but the rest of the team finished 2-for-21 and struck out eight times against Wingate starter Rachel Weidner.
-The Bulldogs carried a 7-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning of game two, but
Jacie Pittman (Travelers Rest, S.C.) laced a grand slam – her first career home run – that inning to pull the Lady Railsplitters within two.
Meredith Johnson (Kenly, N.C.) singled in a run to cut the deficit to 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh, but the Lady Railsplitters left the potential tying run stranded at second base to fall short in their comeback bid.
-
Ty-Kella Goins (Ramseur, N.C.) hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season in game two of that doubleheader against Wingate. Goins finished 2-for-7 in the series with two runs and an RBI. The Ramseur, North Carolina product has hit safely in 25 of her last 58 at-bats to overcome a 2-for-16 start.
-
Brianna Taylor's (Ooltewah, Tenn.) streak of four straight winning starts ended against Wingate, as she allowed a season-high 13 hits and five earned runs over seven innings of work. The Bulldogs did all of their damage against Taylor in two innings, scoring three runs on three hits in the third and using a three-run home run in the seventh to drop the Ooltewah, Tennessee native to 9-4.
-Since making her second start of the season against Shippensburg on March 11, Pittman has hit safely in five straight games for the Lady Railsplitters. The sophomore designated player is 6-for14 with seven RBI, one double, a home run and two walks over that span.
-Senior catcher
Jennifer Moose (Statesville, N.C.) has hit safely in six straight games with multiple hits in three of those six appearances. That run has lifted Moose's average from .309 to .361. She went 3-for-5 and drew two walks in the doubleheader against Wingate.
-Fraley has reached base in 20 of her 24 appearances this season and recorded a hit in 17 of those games. She is tied with Goins for the most multi-hit games with nine and is the only LMU player with a four-hit game this season. Fraley leads the team in average (.382), hits (29), on-base percentage (.473) and slugging percentage (.645).
Notes on the Trojans:
-Anderson opened SAC play by sweeping a doubleheader from the Coker Cobras on Saturday. In game one, the Trojans raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in a 5-0 win. Augie Pena threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and no walks. In game two, Mattie Hamilton hit a game-tying two-run home run in the sixth inning before Michaela Smith blasted a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh in a 4-3 win.
-Anderson hosts No. 23 Limestone for a nonconference twinbill before making the trip to Harrogate for Wednesday's doubleheader.
-The Trojans are a terrific offensive team that is ranked 15th in the nation in on-base percentage with a .416 clip and 23rd in batting average with a .330 mark. Five every day players are hitting above .350 for Anderson.
-Freshman Meghan Majeski is the table setter for Anderson, as the 5-4 outfielder has a team-leading 37 hits, .425 average and 17 stolen bases. Hamilton and Cailah Niles have provided the pop for the Trojans, as that duo has combined for 16 doubles, 11 home runs and 58 RBI. Niles is hitting .417 and reaching base at an absurd .553 clip with 22 walks and just five strikeouts.
-Sophomore Kasey Grant and senior Courtney Czentnar can't be ignored, either. Grant is hitting .354 with four doubles and two home runs, while Czentnar has accumulated six doubles, two triples, two home runs and 17 RBI with a .305 average.
-Anderson is solid on the mound as well with a 2.01 team earned run average. Seniors Pena and Lauren Rudesheim have been the leaders in the circle. Pena is 9-1 with two saves, 72 strikeouts and just eight walks over 64.1 innings of work. Her .190 batting average against and 1.20 ERA lead the SAC. Rudesheim is 7-2 with 30 strikeouts and a 1.58 ERA over 62 innings.
