Quick Hits:
-The Lady Railsplitters lost the early game at Tusculum, 6-5, but rebounded with an impressive 12-1 win in the late game on Wednesday in Greeneville. In game one, Lincoln Memorial committed three errors that led to three unearned runs, while Taylor Plemons tossed a complete-game five-hitter to lead the Pioneers to victory. The Lady Railsplitters responded emphatically in game two, though, scoring six runs in the first and six more in the fourth to salvage the split. Five different players tallied multiple hits for LMU, while
Justice Smith allowed just two hits with five strikeouts in five innings of work.
-The hits kept coming for Lincoln Memorial in game one against No. 24 Limestone on Thursday at Dorothy Neely Field, as the Lady Railsplitters scored five in the first and three more in the second to pace a 10-2 five-inning win.
Jennifer Moose,
Ty-Kella Goins and
Kelsie Hocutt combined for six hits and six RBI in the victory. Game two was a completely different story, as LMU mustered just three hits off of Limestone starter Josie Weber in a 4-0 loss.
-
Dakotah Fraley went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks in the doubleheader against Limestone, but has now reached base safely in 13 consecutive games – the longest streak by a Lincoln Memorial player this season. Her bat has cooled down substantially, though, as the Walkersville, Maryland native is just 4-for-14 over the past seven games. She is still ranked 13th in the SAC in on-base percentage with a .458 clip.
-After losing four straight appearances from March 22-29,
Brianna Taylor got back on track with a solid performance against Limestone, allowing just five hits and two earned runs with a pair of strikeouts over five innings of action. The Ooltewah, Tennessee product earned her 11th win of the season and needs just one more to match the highest win total of her career. She is currently ranked seventh in school history with 34 victories.
-Moose scored twice against Limestone to become the 11th player in program history to tally 100 career runs. The senior catcher is tied with Alisa Burk and Amanda Snow for ninth all-time with 101 runs. Moose also needs just three hits to break into the top 15 in program history in that category.
-Goins went 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles against Limestone to take over the team lead for batting average (.366). Goins is tied with Moose for the most multi-hit games among Lady Railsplitters with 11, while her nine multiple-RBI games are the most on the team. She is also currently riding a four-game hitting streak.
-The Lady Railsplitters are currently tied for eighth place in the SAC standings, but have the opportunity to make up some ground with Catawba, Brevard and Queens up next on the schedule. Those three teams are a combined 3-21 in SAC play.
Notes on the Indians:
-After riding all-everything pitcher Carley Tysinger to back-to-back SAC tournament titles, Catawba has struggled in her absence. The Indians opened the season with nine consecutive losses before winning five of seven games in mid-February. However, since taking a game off of Limestone on February 22, Catawba is 4-17 with two of those wins coming at the expense of 2-14 Brevard.
-The Indians were swept by Coker on Wednesday by scores of 3-0 and 6-4. In game one, Catawba managed just three singles off of Coker's combination of Christine Carver and Nikki Linthicum. In game two, the Indians led 4-2 after three innings, but the Cobras scored four unanswered runs to complete the sweep.
-Catawba is near the bottom of the SAC in batting average (.299), on-base percentage (.369) and slugging percentage (.389) while mustering just 62 extra-base hits this season. The Indians have played the third-most games in the SAC, but are ranked second-to-last with nine home runs. Brevard, who has played only 16 games this season, is last with three.
-The Indians are ranked 10th in the SAC in batting average against (.320) and earned run average (4.76) after leading the league in those categories last season with .201 and 1.73 marks.
-Seniors Kristen Stinnard and Katherine Shumaker and junior Delane Smith are the only everyday players hitting above .300 for Catawba. Stinnard has played the table-setting role for the Indians with a .443 average, 54 hits (49 singles) and six stolen bases. Smith is batting .393 with eight doubles and a team-best 25 RBI, while Shumaker has accounted for a team-high nine doubles and four homers with a .330 average. Freshmen Grace Holland and Taylor Martin have also been effective with 23 and 21 hits, respectively.
-Stinnard is batting a sizzling .522 in SAC play, while Martin is hitting .435 against SAC opponents. Stinnard has hit safely in 11 consecutive games with six multi-hit games over that span. Martin has hit safely in 13 of her last 15 games.
-Freshmen Brooke Walser and Kaylee Cook have started 33 of the team's 37 games. Walser has thrown 113 innings with a 6-11 record, 78 strikeouts and a 3.96 ERA. Cook has thrown 72 innings and averaged a meager 1.85 strikeouts per seven innings with a 2-11 record. Walser has a 4.28 ERA against SAC opponents, while Cook's is 7.98.
-Catawba has been much better at home than on the road this season, compiling a 6-8 record at Whitley Field compared to a 2-8 mark on the road.
