HARROGATE, Tenn. – Kennedy Buechner (Stafford, Va.) led the way for the Lady Railsplitters as she had a school-record eight goals in the 19-4 dominating win over Mount St. Joseph Saturday afternoon at the LMU Soccer Complex.
With the win, LMU moves to 5-8 on the season. It was also senior day as LMU paid tribute to seniors
Mia Blyden (Saint Thomas, Virgin Islands) and
McKenzie Edds (Maynardville, Tenn.)
Buechner was very efficient on the afternoon as she had eight goals on 12 shots to lead the team in scoring, not only setting a new career-high but also program highs for goals and points in a game. She also had three ground balls.
Zoe Zervos (Ithaca, N.Y.) had four goals, an assist and three ground balls while
Jasmin Click (Clermont, Fla.) had a hat trick with three goals, three ground balls and four draw controls.
Casey Kelly (Ellenwood, Ga.) had a pair of goals while
Amara Moss (Woodbridge, Va.) and Rachel Berhardt (Louisville, Ky.) had a goal apiece.
Shannon Novak (Grosse Point Farms, Mich.) went the distance in cage for LMU and had five saves.
The Lions were led by Anna Thorner's two goals. Madie Long and Kara Marshall each had a goal.
???????Buechner got things going early as she scored her first goal of the match less than a minute into the contest, followed a few minutes later by Zervos. Long put the Lions on the board at the 24:51 mark with her goal off the assist from Joy Glacken. Bernhardt scored for LMU five minutes later and then it became the Buechner and Zervos show as the two combined for LMU's next six goals. Thorner and Marshall would score down the stretch for the Lions to cut the lead to 9-3 at the half.
The Lady Railsplitters would outscore Mount St. Joseph 10-1 in the second half. Moss and Buchner scored a pair of goals less than a minute apart to give LMU the 11-3 lead before Thorner would score her second goal of the day with 26:29 remaining. LMU then rolled off eight unanswered goals to coast to the 19-4 victory.
LMU hosts Lees-McRae in the home finale Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. before closing out the regular season next Saturday at Coker.
