Railsplitters make home debut with weekend set against Alderson Broaddus and Belmont Abbey

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball team (0-2) makes its home debut at Mary Mars Gymnasium this weekend when the Railsplitters host Alderson Broaddus (0-2) at 7 p.m. on Friday and Belmont Abbey (1-1) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

- The Railsplitters enter their second season and the first under head coach John Cash. LMU finished its inaugural season at 10-17 but went 8-5 at Mary Mars Gymnasium.
 
- Lincoln Memorial suffered a pair of straight-set losses to McKendree (13-25, 14-25, 17-25) and No. 4 Hawaii (18-25, 12-25, 15-25) to kick off its season at the Grow the Game Classic in Nashville, Tenn. this past weekend. The Railsplitters hit just .100 for the weekend with 52 kills compared to 36 attack errors. McKendree and Hawaii combined to hit .416. They both recorded seven service aces, while LMU only notched one total in the two matches.
 
- Evan Cory led the Railsplitters in both games with 21 total kills and a .294 hitting percentage. He tied for the game-high mark with 10 kills against McKendree and added 11 more against Hawaii. Cory also recorded the team's lone service ace. The rest of the team had a combined 31 kills and 30 errors for a .009 hitting percentage.
 
- Pedro Carvalho was the only other Railsplitter to accumulate a double-digits kill total for the weekend with seven against McKendree and three against Hawaii. AJ Risavy led the team in assists both games and recorded 41 total. Logan Kerley led with 15 total digs, while Marcus Molina notched four total blocks.
 
- Lincoln Memorial defeated Alderson Broaddus in five sets last year at Mary Mars Gymnasium to record its first win in program history. The Battlers returned the favor by topping the Railsplitters 3-1 in Philippi, W.V. and ended LMU's season with a five-set win at the IVA Tournament in Hartsville, S.C. Saturday will mark the first meeting between Lincoln Memorial and Belmont Abbey.
 
Notes on Alderson Broaddus:
 
- The Battlers also began their season with a pair of straight-set losses over the weekend in a trip through Pennsylvania. Saint Francis topped them Friday (14-25, 13-25, 23-25), while No. 9 Penn State cruised Saturday (20-25, 9-25, 15-25).
 
- Friday's matchup with LMU is the second game of a back-to-back-to-back set that begins at King Thursday. Alderson Broaddus will also travel to Lees-McRae Saturday. The Battlers play 17 of their first 18 games on the road before ending the season with four home matches. The team will also host the IVA Tournament.
 
- Alderson Broaddus hit just .022 over its first two matches with 42 kills compared to 39 errors. Opponents hit .430 and totaled 17 service aces to the Battlers' three. Alderson Broaddus held a slight edge in blocks at 13.5-12.5.
 
- Seniors Francisco Cabrera and Myles Miller led the team with 12 total kills apiece. Cabrera led with eight kills Friday, while Miller did so with seven on Saturday. However, neither hit very efficiently and combined for a .107 attack percentage. Miller recorded two of the team's three service aces and tallied a team-best seven blocks.
 
- Adreyune Husted led the team with 23 assists, with 19 of those coming against Penn State. Timothy McIntosh tallied eight digs over the weekend.
 
Notes on Belmont Abbey:
 
- The Crusaders are 1-1 with a season-opening, five-set defeat at Queens (20-25, 25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 14-16) and a straight-set home sweep over St. Andrews (25-20, 25-21, 26-24).
 
- Belmont Abbey hit .157 in its two matches with 88 kills and 53 errors. The team tallied 14 service aces and allowed just seven. The Crusaders also notched 19 total blocks.
 
- Sophomore Liam Maxwell and freshman Brian Long each recorded 16 kills in the team's loss at Queens. Long was efficient with only two errors and a .583 hitting percentage, while Maxwell had 12 errors and hit just .078. Sophomore Pierce Pliapol let the Crusaders with nine kills and a .438 attack percentage in the team's win over St. Andrews.
 
- Maxwell leads the Crusaders with 24 kills overall but has hit just .097. Long has 21 with a .500 hitting percentage. Maxwell's 72 total attacks are 26 more than anyone else on the team.
 
- Freshman Brennan Davis has dished out 70 of the team's 84 assists, including 48 in the team's loss at Queens. Senior Rob Valentine leads with 23 digs and tallied 16 in the Queens match. Freshman William Morris has 11 total blocks with at least four in each match.
