Road matches at Queens, Catawba begin second half of SAC slate for Lady Railsplitters

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball team begins a three-match road trip and the second half of its South Atlantic Conference schedule this weekend with matches at Queens on Friday and Catawba on Saturday.
 
The Lady Railsplitters (10-6, 6-4 SAC) picked up their 10th win of the season, remained in sole possession of fourth place in the SAC standings and improved to 9-1 at Mary Mars Gym with a 3-1 victory over Carson-Newman on Tuesday night.
 
Queens (9-10, 5-7 SAC) fell at league-leading Wingate in four sets on Tuesday, while Catawba's (6-15, 2-8 SAC) dreary season continued that same day with a 3-1 loss at Coker. The Royals are currently in seventh in the SAC, while the Indians are in 10th.

Quick Hits 
 
- Lindsey Nartker had a match-high 15 kills, while Rylee Storms and Emma Flowers added 13 apiece in the Lady Railsplitters' 3-1 win over Carson-Newman. Despite committing their second-most attack errors of the season with 28, the Lady Railsplitters accounted for a 53-40 advantage in kills. 
 
- Senior libero Erica Whiteaker led all players with 24 digs to become the first player in program history with 2,000 career digs. The Kingston Springs, Tenn., native is ranked second in the SAC in digs per set with 6.93, which is on pace to break the program's single-season record of 6.46 that she posted last season. 
 
- The Lady Railsplitters have just 10 matches remaining in the regular-season schedule. Of those 10, Lincoln Memorial will be on the road for six of them. 
 
- The Lady Railsplitters are just 1-3 in true road matches and have lost three consecutive road tilts since winning at Newbery on September 21. 
 
- Emily Walter's impressive freshman season rolled along on Tuesday as the setter recorded her ninth double-double in 16 appearances. The Buford, Ga., product is ranked fourth in the SAC in assists per set with 9.65 and fifth in total assists with 550. In addition to that, she's 20th in the league with 3.18 digs per frame. 
 
- Storms leads the Lady Railsplitters in kills (152), while Flowers leads the team with 2.72 kills per set. Alicia Kessler's .256 attack percentage is a team-high mark. In total, seven different players have accounted for 59 kills or more this season for Lincoln Memorial. 
 
Notes on Queens 
 
- It's been an up-and-down season for the Royals, who won their first four matches before going 2-8 over their next 10. Queens then rolled off three straight wins, but enters Friday's match having suffered back-to-back 3-1 losses at Anderson and Wingate. 
 
- In Tuesday's loss to league-leading Wingate, the Royals hit just .116 and managed only 41 kills compared to the Bulldogs' 56. Casey Tarvin led all players with 16 kills, though she also led the way with eight attack errors. Chanel Turner chipped in seven kills on 34 attempts. 
 
- The Royals rank third in the SAC with 12.44 kills per set, but are eighth in attack percentage with a .164 clip. In conference play, Queens has committed the second-most errors in the league with 261. 
 
- Tarvin leads the SAC in total attack attempts with 887. She also leads the league with 263 kills while ranking second in kills per set with 3.65. The sophomore outside hitter ranks 12th in the league with 4.14 digs per set.  
 
- Tarvin is one of four sophomores leading the Royals with over two kills per set along with Logan Witt (2.86), Jordan Proszenyak (2.22) and Turner (2.17). 
 
- Freshman setter Alexandria Becerra paces Queens with 7.50 assists per set to go with 2.93 digs per frame. Sophomore Jaycee Jones leads the team with 5.56 digs per set. 
 
- The Royals have played the bulk of their matches on the road as they enter the weekend with just a 4-3 record in Charlotte this season. 
 
Notes on Catawba 
 
- The Indians started their season on a high note with three straight wins over UNC Pembroke, Francis Marion and Converse. However, Catawba is 3-15 since that start. That stretch includes 10 straight-set losses. 
 
- In Tuesday's loss at Coker, the Indians won set won 25-22 before dropping the next three by scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-18. Catawba combined for 26 attack errors and seven reception errors. 
 
- Sophomore outside hitter Jade Brooks is the only Catawba player averaging over two kills per set with 2.13. Brooks also leads the team with 91 attack errors and is hitting just .102. 
 
- Allie Grubb (1.94), Kimberly Hurtado (1.88), Micah Ensor (1.85) and Kylie Morgan (1.78) have also averaged over 1.7 kills per set for the Indians, who are ranked second-to-last in the SAC as a team in kills per set with 11.29 and attack percentage with a .142 clip. 
 
- Catawba is 0-3 at home this season. However, the Indians took both Wingate and Mars Hill to five sets in Salisbury. Those two teams are currently a combined 17-3 in SAC play.  
 
- Junior Morgan Hester leads the Indians with 8.65 assists per set, while senior Allison Benton is putting up a team-high 4.22 digs per set. 
 
Series History 
 
- The Lady Railsplitters defeated Queens in four sets at Mary Mars Gym on September 14 to improve to 8-7 in the all-time series and snap a three-game losing streak to the Royals. Tone Gill led LMU with 11 kills and nine block assists, while Flowers and Storms had 10 kills apiece. Tarvin and Witt paced Queens with 12 kills apiece. 
 
- Lincoln Memorial is 1-4 all-time on the road in the series. The Lady Railsplitters haven't beaten the Royals in Charlotte since September 2014. 
 
- The Lady Railsplitters also topped Catawba in four sets on September 25 at Mars Gym to beat the Indians for the 13th time in the last 15 tries. Gill and Nartker had 10 kills apiece to lead LMU, while Morgan led the Indians with 11, though she committed 10 errors as well. 
 
- The Indians own a 7-6 record against the Lady Railsplitters in Salisbury. LMU won last season's road matchup in four sets, but suffered their most recent loss in the series on the road in 2016.
