HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial women's volleyball remained hot on Saturday afternoon with a four-set victory (25-13, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17) over Lenoir-Rhyne (17-9, 11-8 SAC) in the team's regular-season home finale.
The Lady Railsplitters (16-7, 12-5) further solidified their third-place spot in the South Atlantic Conference standings and improved to 12-2 inside Mary Mars Gymnasium, which is tied for the second-most home wins in program history. Since a straight-set sweep at the same Lenoir-Rhyne team on September 29, LMU has won eight of 10 games — all within the conference. Lincoln Memorial was also able to shake its recent history with Lenoir-Rhyne, as the Bears had won 10 of the past 12 meetings.
Rylee Storms led all players with 15 kills and added nine digs.
Kai Wesemann notched a career-high 13 kills while hitting .357.
Lindsey Nartker also totaled 13 kills with 10 digs to record her third straight double-double.
Tone Gill also reached double-digit kills with 11 and added four blocks, including two solo.
Erica Whiteaker led all players with 24 digs and four service aces, while
Emily Walter racked up a career-best 52 assists.
Lenoir-Rhyne was paced by Angelica Arroyo's 13 kills while Taylor Prall posted a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Helen Hamilton also had a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs. Madison Asher was a force in the middle with 7 kills, a .538 hitting percentage and seven block assists.
Lincoln Memorial totaled 60 kills to Lenoir-Ryne's 46 and outhit the Bears .257-.168. LMU also led in digs (71-56) and service aces (11-6) while the Bears had a 12-9 edge in blocks.
The Lady Railsplitters never trailed in the opening set and cruised to a 25-13 victory behind a scorching .455 hitting percentage. LMU used an early 5-0 run to take a 7-2 lead and later went on a 10-2 run to lead by as many as 13 at 23-10. Storms and Wesemann had five kills apiece while Gill added four.
Lincoln Memorial continued its hot start from set one into set two as the team built another 7-2 advantage. The Lady Railsplitters again never trailed and led by as many as seven points at 16-9 before a 10-4 Bears run cut the lead to just one. LMU responded by taking the next three points as Wesemann and Nartker registered kills. The Bears then took three of the next four points, but Gill finished off the set with a kill to give the Lady Railsplitters the 25-22 victory. Lenoir-Rhyne actually outhit LMU .353 to .289, though the Lady Railsplitters led in kills 17-15 and added three service aces.
Lenoir-Rhyne took its first lead of the match to open set three and used an 8-2 run to build a 10-5 advantage. The Bears never trailed the rest of the way and led by as many as seven points, though the Lady Railsplitters worked to cut the deficit to 23-22. A subsequent Prall kill and Storms attack error then sealed the set for Lenoir-Rhyne. LMU stumbled to a .043 hitting percentage and committed nine attack errors for the set while the Bears hit .146 and were led by Prall's five kills.
The fourth set went back and forth early, but the teams found themselves tied at 10 apiece. A Hamilton kill then put the Bears ahead for the final time, but three straight Lenoir-Rhyne attack errors put the Lady Railsplitters ahead for good. This was part of a larger 18-7 run that Lincoln Memorial closed the set on to win 25-17 and clinch the match. LMU hit efficiently with a .323 clip while Lenoir-Rhyne had its worst set at .067. Wesemann paced the Lady Railsplitters with four kills, including the game-winner.
Lincoln Memorial concludes its regular-season schedule with three road matches at Carson-Newman on Tuesday, Coker Friday and Wingate Saturday before beginning SAC Tournament play on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
