Railsplitters shatter hits record in 32-4 obliteration of Virginia-Wise

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team set a program record for hits with 33 and scored the second-most runs in program history with a 32-4 shellacking of UVA-Wise (1-5) Monday afternoon at Lamar Hennon Field. The Railsplitters (5-2) extended their winning streak to four games with the win.

LMU also broke a program record with 59 at bats in the game. The team hit a ridiculous .559 (33-for-59) which included a .571 average with both runners on base (28-for-49) and runners in scoring position (24-for-42).

All 17 Railsplitters to record an at bat recorded at least one hit, and 15 drove in at least one run. Nine players tallied multiple RBI. Most of the hits were singles, as only seven went for extra bases. No Railsplitter recorded more than one extra-base hit.

Seth Hunt led the charge with a 5-for-8 day which included a walk, triple, three RBI and three runs scored. His eight at bats tied an individual program record. Nate Stinson went 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored. Marco Rios reached base six times and also went 3-for-5 on the day with three RBI and two runs scored. Logan Augustine and Justin Shaw also recorded three hits apiece.

Dominic Morabito allowed three runs (one earned) in five innings with nine strikeouts to pick up his first win of the year. The righty allowed eight hits, one walk and a hit batter. Ben Wiley, Jack Gomersall, Chase Randolph and Tanner Acuff each pitched an inning of relief.

Lincoln Memorial batted around in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings. The Railsplitters started off modestly with two runs in the first and two in the second before adding four in the third and six more in the fourth. After a scoreless fifth inning, the team plated five more runs in the sixth and exploded for 13 in the seventh. LMU added one more run in the eighth.

Matthew Branham, Tyler Blaum and Brett Yates did all of the damage offensively for UVa-Wise. Branham went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, run scored and all three of the team's RBI. Blaum went 3-for-3, and Yates 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. The rest of the team hit just 2-for-26 (.077) with no runs scored or RBI.

The Railsplitters will look to keep the hot bats going Wednesday afternoon at Erskine. First pitch of the single nine-inning game is set for 2 p.m.
