Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Golia and Arcuri power Railsplitters to season-opening win at Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. – Senior Adam Golia set a program record for points while Kyle Arcuri finished just off that pace to lead the Lincoln Memorial men's lacrosse team to a 16-9 win at Hampton in the 2018 opener.

Golia tallied five goals and handed out four assists to record the first nine-point game in the history of the LMU men's lacrosse program, topping the previous record of eight that he set against Notre Dame de Namur in March 2016. Arcuri was nearly just as good, scoring four goals while dishing out three assists to match the third-highest point output in program history with seven.

That duo combined for 20 of the Railsplitters' program-record 56 shot attempts as Lincoln Memorial won its season opener for only the second time in four years.

Along with that tandem, Khanan Bodley chipped in two goals on six shots while five other players produced a single goal apiece. Matthew Lorandini produced two assists in his collegiate debut.

The Railsplitters and Pirates were tied at 2-2 at the end of the first quarter while Lincoln Memorial established a slim 6-4 lead at the break. However, the Railsplitters broke things open in the third quarter, when they outshot the home team 20-9 to build a commanding 12-5 advantage.

Seven different players scored a goal for the Railsplitters in the third frame. Golia wasn't one of them but he provided the assists on Janson Brown and Chris Tucker's goals. Arcuri scored in unassisted fashion to help spark that run and later assisted on Nick Borriello's goal with 7:27 left in the quarter to make it a 9-5 lead.

Carrying a 12-5 cushion into the fourth, the Railsplitters opened the final quarter with two goals by Golia and another by Bodley to increase the lead to 15-5 with a little over 10 minutes left. That stretch represented the back half of a 7-0 LMU run that began with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Hampton ended that run and scored four unanswered goals over the next passage of play but it was too little too late for the Pirates.

Golia put the finishing touches on the win and clinched the program points record with a goal at the 1:34 mark, which proved to be the final goal in the 16-9 triumph.

Lincoln Memorial outshot the Pirates 56-35, including a 30-15 margin in the second half. In addition to that, the Railsplitters went 25-for-30 on clear attempts and forced Hampton into 31 turnovers. Will Britt paced Lincoln Memorial with six caused turnovers.
