Railsplitters drop third straight, fall in straight sets at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball team (3-5) dropped its third straight and second in as many nights as it fell in straight sets (22-25, 19-25, 20-25) to Lindenwood (6-3) Saturday night at Robert F. Hyland Arena.
 
The Lions held a 39-26 edge in kills and hit .329 with 14 attack errors compared to LMU's .110 attack percentage with 18 attack errors. Lindenwood didn't hit below .250 in any set, while the Railsplitters never hit above .200. The Lions also totaled eight blocks to Lincoln Memorial's 5.5.
 
Michael Jennings led the Lindenwood attack with 12 kills. Johnny Winkler added nine more kills, while Connor Hipelius notched eight and a team-high .583 attack percentage. Adam Brewster assisted on 32 kills, Ryan Vorderer recorded 10 digs and Sam Schindler took part in five blocks.
 
Evan Cory and Pedro Carvalho led the Railsplitters with seven kills apiece. Cory also led with five digs. AJ Risavy racked up 22 assists.
 
LMU led the first set 16-14, but the Lions took eight of the next 10 points to go up for good. Hipelius led all players with four kills.
 
The Railsplitters again led by two points through the first half of set two at 14-11, but Lindenwood went on a 12-3 run to take a commanding 23-17 lead. Winkler recorded five kills.
 
Jennings caught fire in the third set with seven kills. Most came early in the set, though his final one sparked a rally. He tied the game at 19 apiece, and the Lions took seven of the final eight points to clinch the set and the match.
 
The Railsplitters next return home to Mary Mars Gymnasium for a match Wednesday night against Emmanuel at 7 p.m.
