Railsplitters host Cobras for Friday night clash

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University men's volleyball team (4-5) concludes its brief two-game homestand against the Coker Cobras (4-2) Friday at 7 p.m. at Mary Mars Gymnasium with a chance to even its record back at .500. Coker won last year's meeting between the two teams in four sets at the IVA Tournament in Hartsville, S.C.

- Lincoln Memorial University snapped a three-game skid and dispatched Emmanuel in straight sets (25-18, 26-24 and 25-19) Wednesday night at Mary Mars Gymnasium. The Railsplitters never fell behind by more than two points and didn't trail at all in two of the three sets.
 
- Despite winning all three sets, LMU trailed Emmanuel in kills 35-33. However, the Lions committed nine more attacking errors (22-13) and hit .153 while the Railsplitters hit .282. The game was also decided in the serving department, as the Railsplitters had a 9-4 edge in service aces, and Emmanuel committed 10 service errors to LMU's six.
 
- Evan Cory led all players with 12 kills and added three service aces, six digs, two assists and a block. Joshua Riblett totaled six kills and three service aces. Pedro Carvalho recorded five kills, a .667 attack percentage and four total blocks. Jordan Walley tied a season high with seven digs and notched two service aces. AJ Risavy racked up 26 assists.
 
- Lincoln Memorial improved to 4-1 on the season at Mary Mars Gymnasium and 12-6 all-time. All five home matches on the year have been straight-set sweeps.
 
- Eight of LMU's nine matches on the season have only lasted three sets. The only game that didn't was a five-set loss at Quincy in which the Railsplitters went up 2-0 but couldn't close the game out.
 
- Cory has recorded a double-digit kill total in six of nine matches and leads the team with 94 kills, 3.24 kills per set and 11 service aces. The sophomore from Metairie, Louisiana has led or been tied for the team lead in kills in all but one match.
 
Notes on Coker:
 
- The Cobras are 3-2 on the road and just 1-0 at home. The team returned from a two-week layoff Tuesday at Barton to lose in four sets (15-25, 16-25, 25-20, 17-25).
 
- Kills were almost even in the match with Barton holding a slight edge at 40-39. However, the Cobras made 10 more attack errors (24-14) and hit just .139 to Barton's .292.
 
- Joao Victor Santos and Gabriel Castro led the Cobras offensively with 11 kills apiece. Stephen Porras was close behind with 10 kills. The trio also combined for 20 errors and hit just .132.
 
- The Cobras struggled offensively in the three sets they lost as they failed to hit above .045 but exploded for 16 kills and a .400 attack percentage in set three. Castro led the charge with seven kills.
 
- Kills between Coker and its opponents are exactly even at 256 for the season. Total attacks (631-623), assists (244-248), digs (208-215) and total points (330.5-334.0) are also nearly even. The Cobras have a more distinct edge in service aces (43-30) but trail decisively in total blocks (32-48).
 
- Porras leads the team with 76 kills, and Castro isn't far behind with 73. Porras' 3.17 kills per set ranks 26th nationally while Castro's 3.04 ranks 35th. Santos is third on the team with 52 kills and is tied for 11th nationally with a .400 attack percentage.
