Railsplitters blast Bluefield in straight sets to close out Mary Mars Gym

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Lincoln Memorial University's men's volleyball team closed out its home schedule with a straight-set sweep (25-17, 25-10, 25-15) of Bluefield (6-15) Tuesday night at Mary Mars Gymnasium. The Railsplitters (10-11) finish with a 9-1 home record for the year.

LMU held distinct edges in kills (36-16), service aces (12-3), blocks (5-1) and digs (30-21). The Railsplitters hit .377 while Bluefield collectively hit .000.

Evan Cory led the way with 11 kills and hit .500. Pedro Carvalho added 10 kills and six blocks. AJ Risavy collected 27 assists while Logan Kerley (11) racked up a double-digit dig total for the seventh time in eight matches. Four Railsplitters notched multiple service aces led by Jordan Walley's three.

Albert Chiaparini totaled six of Bluefield's 16 kills and hit .313. The rest of the team combined to hit -.010.

Bluefield took a 5-4 lead in the opening set, but LMU went on a 15-5 run to take a commanding 19-10 advantage. The Railsplitters went on to take the set 25-17 behind 13 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, the Rams hit .077 with seven kills. Carvalho tallied five kills.

Lincoln Memorial led for the entirety of the second set after taking eight of the first nine points. A 6-0 run later expanded the LMU lead to 15-3. The Railsplitters led by as much as 15 on multiple occasions and cruised to take the set 25-10. LMU had its lowest kill total (11) and hitting percentage (.292) of any set, but the Rams hit -.154 with three kills and seven errors. Cory recorded four kills.

The Railsplitters never trailed in the third set, though Bluefield remained much more competitive for the opening portion. A 9-0 run then ballooned LMU's 14-11 lead to 23-11. The Railsplitters went on to win the set 25-15 to clinch the match. Lincoln Memorial notched 12 kills at a .556 clip and added five service aces. Cory pitched in four kills, and Walley recorded all three of his service aces.

The Railsplitters conclude their regular season with four road matches beginning with a trip through West Virginia to face Alderson Broaddus on Friday and Charleston Saturday.
