Seven players score as Lady Railsplitters take down Nyack 22-9

HARROGATE, Tenn. – Kennedy Buechner and Amara Moss had five goals apiece as the Lady Railsplitters bested Nyack 22-9 Tuesday afternoon at the LMU Lacrosse Complex.

LMU improves to 3-1, which is the best start in program history. Nyack, who made the long trip from Nyack, New York for their season opener, falls to 0-1.

Erin DePaul chipped in four goals and Casey Kelly scored three. Jacquelin Turner had two goals and led LMU with five assists, which is a new program record. Rachel Bernhardt also had two goals while Melissa Saganich scored her first collegiate goal. In addition to her five goals, Buechner also had four assists, setting a new program record for points in a game with nine. Shannon Novak and Micayla Starnes each played a half for LMU, with Novak grabbing three saves and Starnes two.

Nyack was led by Tori Silvers, who had five goals and an assists. Melissa Clapsaddle chipped in two goals and two assists. Goalie Morgan Kessler had 12 saves.

Buechner got the Lady Railsplitters on the board early, scoring her first goal at the 28:07 mark. She notched her second one three minutes later as Turner found her cutting for the goal and placed a perfect pass that Buechner caught and put past Kessler. Erin DePaul scored twice and Moss got her first goal of the day off a pass from Buechner to put LMU ahead 5-0.

Tori Silvers then Nyack's first goal as she took the draw, ran it in and scored at the 20:47 mark. Silvers then scored again a minute later off a free position shot to cut the lead to 5-3. Buechner and DePaul each scored again a minute apart before Silvers again scored off a free position shot with 16:19 left in the half. The Lady Railsplitters scored thrice more before Silvers again scored off an assist from Courtney LaTorre to cut the lead to 10-4.

LMU would extend the lead to 13-4 with goals from Kelly, Bernhardt and DePaul. With 4:33 remaining, Silvers found Melissa Clapsaddle open and she scored her first collegiate goal. After Moss scored on a woman-up goal, Clapsaddle scored again and later assisted Julianna Kranes on a goal with ten seconds left to cut the LMU lead to 14-7 at the half.

The Lady Railsplitters came out shooting in the second half, scoring seven goals off of six different players to make the score 21-7 midway through the half. Clapsaddle would find Lindsay Miller open for the score with 7:33 left and, after Moss scored LMU's final goal off an assist by Jessie Graham, Silvers put Nyack on the board for the final time with 1:33 left in the contest. LMU then won the draw and ran out the clock to claim their third win of the season
