HARROGATE, Tenn. – Lincoln Memorial University's baseball team (14-7, 2-5 SAC) opened its three-game series against Tusculum (11-8, 5-2 SAC) with a 5-3 loss Friday afternoon at Lamar Hennon Field.
The Railsplitters outhit Tusculum 8-6 for the game. All three runs and four of those hits came in the sixth inning. LMU hit just .111 (2-for-18) with runners on base. The team was also 1-for-10 (.100) with runners in scoring position.
Tyler Adams went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles. The sophomore shortstop also scored and drove in a run.
Timmy Wages reached base three times with an RBI double and two walks.
Seth Hunt (2-for-5) singled twice.
Joe Stucky hit his second home run of the year.
The Pioneers hit .308 (4-for-13) with runners on base and .300 (3-for-10) with runners in scoring position. Trey Hinton (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Jarel McDade (3-for-4, 2 R, RBI) combined for five of the team's six hits and played a part in all five runs.
Ethan Elliott dropped to 2-2 with four runs allowed (two earned) in 6.1 innings. The junior lefty surrendered five hits and a walk and struck out six.
Chase Randolph pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed one earned run on one hit with four walks—one intentional.
McDade opened the scoring with an RBI triple in the top of the second. Seth DeHaven plated him with a two-out double two batters later.
Charles Hall cruised through five shutout innings for Tusculum with only three hits and one walk allowed. The righty failed to get an out in the sixth and departed after four consecutive hits and three runs scored—all earned. He also struck out five.
Stucky led off the sixth with a solo shot to left center.
Logan Augustine then singled. Adams and Wages followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to give LMU a 3-2 lead and end Hall's outing.
Pedro Rodriguez entered in relief and worked out of the jam. The righty pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Tusculum re-took the lead in the top of the seventh on Hinton's two-run single that also ended Elliott's day. Hinton drove in another run in the eighth with a bases-loaded walk.
Will Reddick and
Dalton Dedas both reached in the bottom of the ninth, but Chase McAllister retired the next three batters to earn the save.
The two teams resume their series back at Lamar Hennon Field on Saturday with a nine-inning game at 1 p.m. followed by a seven-inning game.
