HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lady Railsplitters will try to extend their season and earn a berth to the South Atlantic Conference tournament on Saturday when they conclude the regular season with a doubleheader against Coker at Dorothy Neely Field.
Lincoln Memorial (23-21, 6-12 SAC) kept its slim postseason hopes alive on Wednesday by beating Tusculum twice at Dorothy Neely Field to notch the first SAC sweep of the season. The Lady Railsplitters moved into ninth place in the conference standings by virtue of those two wins and inched just one game back of the final qualifying spot for the SAC Championship.
Coker (32-14, 11-7 SAC) heads into the final day of the regular season tied for second place in the SAC standings with wins in eight of its last nine games. The Cobras, who have won both ends of three of their last four league doubleheaders, swept Catawba on Tuesday by scores of 3-2 and 4-1.

- The Lady Railsplitters produced their second-most hits in a SAC game this season in Wednesday's nightcap, pounding out 15 to complete the sweep with a come-from-behind 9-7 win. Lincoln Memorial trailed 4-2 midway through the fourth but scored six unanswered runs to take the lead for good.

Emma Webb and Jones added multiple hits as well.
-
Kelsie Hocutt had a hit in both games of the Tusculum doubleheader to extend her hitting streak to 14 dating back to March 30. She is currently on pace to finish with the third-best batting average in program history (.432).
- Saturday will serve as Senior Day for the Lincoln Memorial softball program as the quartet of
Becca Burchette,
Teddi Collins,
Ashlea Hunter and
Brianna Taylor will be honored during a pre-game ceremony.
- Webb's sensational freshman season continued on Wednesday as the third baseman went 4-for-8 in the series against Tusculum to push her hitting streak to 12 games. The Knoxville, Tenn. native is batting .363 with a .422 on-base percentage and a .541 slugging percentage.
- Webb, Hocutt and Goins have each reached base in at least 10 consecutive games. Webb has reached base in 15 straight games, while Hocutt's streak is at 14. Goins, who is batting .395 this season, has made it on base at least once in 10 straight games. Goins also leads the team with 17 multi-hit games, including Wednesday's 4-for-4 effort.
- Lincoln Memorial will in all likelihood need to sweep Saturday's doubleheader to earn a berth to the SAC Championship. Carson-Newman and Coker are currently tied for seventh place with a one-game lead on the Lady Railsplitters, but those two teams play one another on Saturday. The Lady Railsplitters split with both Coker and Carson-Newman during the regular season, meaning that if they finish tied with either of those teams a variety of tiebreaker scenarios will come into play to determine the final SAC Championship bids.
Know the Opponent:
- By almost any measure, Coker has had a remarkable season. The Cobras opened the year with 14 straight wins and moved to 18-3 after a 16-1 demolition of USC Aiken on March 7. They hit a brief lull with seven losses over an eight-game stretch after that, but have since won 13 of their last 17 games.
- Coker won a pitcher's duel in eight innings over Catawba in Tuesday's opener, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to escape with a 3-2 victory. The two teams combined for just 11 hits. Maria Williamson and Hannah Price led the Cobras with two apiece, while Christine Carver surrendered just five hits over eight innings of work to earn the win.
- Coker scored two in the first and added two more in the sixth to complete its sweep of Catawba with a 4-1 win in Tuesday's finale. Price homered to lead the way while Williamson, Lilli Otten and Madison King had two hits apiece. Taylor Forehand and Nikki Linthicum combined to allow just four hits and one run while recording eight strikeouts in the win.
- In SAC play, the Cobra pitching staff is sporting a league-best .229 batting average against and the third-best ERA with a 2.68 mark. Coker's offense has struggled in SAC play, though, with a league-worst .249 batting average and .365 slugging percentage.
- Against SAC opponents, Coker is either last or second-to-last in the league in doubles, extra-base hits, total bases and runs scored.
- Despite Coker's offensive issues as a team, Williamson is having a SAC Player of the Year-type season. The infielder leads the SAC in batting average (.464), on-base percentage (.536), hits (.65) and total bases (101) while ranking second with 48 RBI and fourth with 10 homers. She has hit safely in 10 of her last 11 games.
- Williamson is one of only four Coker players hitting over .300 with at least 100 at-bats under their belt. Price is batting .310 with five doubles, three homers and 26 RBI, while Cacey Simmons has accounted for a .304 average, five doubles, four home runs and 28 RBI. Anna Gluhosky has hit .302 with four doubles and 19 RBI.
- Carver leads Coker's tremendous pitching staff with a 1.92 ERA, a 15-6 record and 100 strikeouts over 131.1 innings of work. Forehand (8-4, 2.74 ERA, 65 K's) and Linthicum (7-2, 4.57 ERA, 45 K's) have also thrown over 64 innings apiece this season.
- Coker has been nearly unbeatable at home with a 15-3 mark but is just 13-9 on the road. The Cobras lost their only two SAC series of the year on the road, dropping both games at Anderson on March 17 and Lenoir-Rhyne on March 28.
Series History:
- The Lady Railsplitters are 5-7 all-time against Coker, which has won the last three games in the series.
- Coker swept last season's doubleheader in Hartsville, S.C. by scores of 6-3 and 4-2.
- Lincoln Memorial split with the Cobras the last time the two teams played in Harrogate in 2016, winning game one 4-3 before falling in game two 6-5.
