Lady Railsplitters look to get back on track with Wednesday doubleheader at Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Lady Railsplitters will try to snap a season-long six-game losing streak on Wednesday when they conclude their six-game road trip with a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader at Anderson.

The last week has not been kind to Lincoln Memorial (19-15, 2-6 SAC), which has dropped its last four games on the road against nationally ranked opponents. After being swept by No. 19 Queens last Friday, the Lady Railsplitters were handed 10-3 and 11-4 losses by No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne on Monday.

Anderson (24-10, 6-4 SAC) is also looking to snap its longest losing streak of the season, as the Trojans have lost four straight games since opening SAC play with six straight wins. The Trojans were most recently swept at Wingate by scores of 5-2 and 6-5.

Lincoln Memorial is 10-11 all-time against the Trojans with a 3-7 mark on the road. The two teams split last season's doubleheader but the Lady Railsplitters were swept in their most recent trip to Anderson in 2016.

Quick Hits:

- Emma Webb went 2-for-3 and hit a three-run home run but that was all the offense Lincoln Memorial could muster in a 10-3 loss in game one against Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bears, meanwhile, scored in all but one inning and blew the game open with a five-run sixth inning.

- All nine LMU starters reached base at least once while seven players produced at least one hit in game two of Monday's doubleheader, but Lenoir-Rhyne picked right back up where it left off, using a pair of four-run innings to complete the sweep. Kelsie Hocutt went 3-for-4 with a double and Ty-Kella Goins and Jacie Pittman added two hits apiece.

- LMU used three pitchers in both games at Lenoir-Rhyne and all three struggled. Brianna Taylor was the most effective of that trio in both games. The senior allowed four hits and two earned runs in three innings in game one and later surrendered five hits and four unearned runs over three innings in game two.

- LMU pitching has had a rough go of it in SAC play. Through eight games, the Lady Railsplitters have a league-worst 6.60 ERA and .396 batting average against in SAC play.

- Hocutt is ranked sixth in the SAC with a .419 batting average and third with a .731 slugging percentage. The junior first baseman leads the Lady Railsplitters with seven homers and is second to only Webb in RBI with 26.

- Webb, Goins and Grace Cochran are the only other LMU players hitting over .300. Goins is batting .386 with nine doubles, 13 RBI and 10 walks, while Webb leads the team with 27 RBI to go along with a .343 average, nine doubles and a pair of homers. Cochran hit .375 in March to lift her average to .310.

- The six-game losing streak is the program's longest since a six-game skid from March 16-23, 2013. The Lady Railsplitters haven't had a losing streak go longer than six games since 2009.

Know the Opponent:

- Wingate scored three runs in the fourth and added a run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to hand Anderson its first SAC loss of the season in game one of the two teams' doubleheader on Saturday, 5-2. Cailah Niles and Rachael Barefield both homered in the loss for the Trojans.

-  Anderson led 5-0 through five innings in game two but the Bulldogs scored four in the sixth and walked it off in the bottom of the seventh to complete the sweep with a 6-5 victory. Meghan Majeski and Joshlyn Martin had two hits and two RBI apiece to pace the Trojans.

- Prior to dropping that doubleheader at Wingate, the Trojans were swept at Lenoir-Rhyne by scores of 10-4 and 6-3. Anderson previously swept Tusculum, Carson-Newman and Coker.

- Anderson is another solid offensive unit, ranking among the top five in the SAC in batting average (.319, 3rd), on-base percentage (.393, 4th) and slugging percentage (.503, 1st). The Trojans are leading the SAC in homers with 34 and second in extra-base hits with 95.

- Martin leads the team with a .417 batting average, 45 hits and 13 doubles. The junior had added 20 RBI, walked five times and struck out only once in 108 official at-bats.

- Brenna Hagerty (8), Mattie Hamilton (8) and Niles (7) have combined for 23 of the team's 34 home runs. Barefield has added four while Kasey Grant has connected for three.

- Majeski (.340), Niles (.340), Hagerty (.375), Grant (.304) and Hamilton (.327) are all hitting over .300. In total, six every day players are batting over .300 for the Trojans.

- Anderson also boast a stellar pitching staff that ranks first in the SAC in batting average against with a .211 mark and second in earned run average with a 2.09 clip.

- The freshmen duo of Harlie Duncan and Kayla Pepper are leading the Trojan pitching staff. Duncan is 10-3 with a 2.09 ERA and 41 strikeouts over 80.1 innings while Pepper is 8-4 with a 1.64 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 77 innings of work. Senior Randee Bettis has also thrown 63.1 innings, compiling a 2.65 ERA with 49 strikeouts over that span.
