Moss' eight goals lead the way as LMU crushes Shorter 21-6

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The goals came early and often as the LMU women's lacrosse team tied the program record for wins in a season with their sixth win of 2018 with the 21-6 win over Shorter Tuesday afternoon.

LMU (6-5) scored six unanswered goals in the first half to open up what had been a 2-1 contest. After Shorter (0-7) cut the lead to 9-5 with a little less than ten minutes left in the first half, the Lady Railsplitters exploded on an 11-0 run, the largest in program history, to put the game away. The Hawks scored only one goal the rest of the game as LMU cruised to the 21-6 win.

Amara Moss led LMU for the day with eight goals and nine points, both of with tied the program's single-game record. Erin DePaul and Kennedy Buechner each chipped in four goals apiece while Casey Kelly, Jacquelin Turner, Autumn Beddington, Rachel Bernhardt and Jessie Graham each added a goal. Kelly also had three assists to lead the team.

???????Buechner gave LMU the 1-0 lead 36 seconds into the game, followed shortly by Moss. After a SU score, Moss's second goal of the day sparked the 6-0 run with Moss, Buechner and DePaul all having braces during that span.

Shorter then scored four goals to one by Buechner, cutting the score to 9-5 with 9:54 remaining. After a possession on each side, Bernhardt's eighth goal of the season at the 7:56 mark opened the floodgates for the Lady Railsplitters, who would score 10 more goals over the next 26:01 of game time to shoot out to a 21-5 lead. Moss was on fire during this stretch, scoring five goals and assisting on another.

The Hawks would score again with 4:34 remaining, while DePaul added an insurance goal with 1:30 left to make the score 21-6.

Moss led the team with ten draws, while Kelly led the team with four ground balls.  Shannon Novak and Micayla Starnes split time in cage, with Novak netting two saves and Starnes one.

LMU led in shots (26-14), while both teams had three saves each. The Lady Railsplitters held the advantage in draws (18-9), while the Hawks held the advantage in ground balls (19-15). The Hawks had 21 turnovers to 19 by the Lady Railsplitters.

LMU will have a pair of South Atlantic Conference contests over the next eight days as they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday before returning home to face Tusculum on April 11.
