Men's soccer eyeing third consecutive victory over Young Harris

Quick Hits

- One day off from exactly a year ago, the then-No. 24-ranked Lincoln Memorial University men's soccer team stunned the then-No. 11-ranked Mountain Lions, 2-1, in overtime.

- It was Danilo da Silva's 98th-minute goal that propelled the Railsplitters for their second straight victory over the Georgia-based school.

- LMU hasn't found itself on the losing side yet this season, defeating Salem University, 1-0, at home last weekend before ending on a 1-1 double-overtime draw to visiting Lee University Wednesday.

- Senior captain Christoph Willemsen shined bright for the Railsplitters, heading in their lone goal that knotted the Flames' score while assisting goalkeeper Caleb Cothrin and kicking out what could have been Lee's game-winning goal in the first half.

- Freshman Rodrigo Aguiar and graduate transfer Edwin Vaas picked up their first assists as a Railsplitter, too, versus Lee. Aguiar bicycled-kicked the ball to Vaas as he headed it to Willemsen for the equalizing goal in the 76th minute.

- Felipe Machado, a senior captain, didn't dress out Wednesday due to a day-to-day setback, but head coach Helio D'Anna said he's confident he'll be ready for a gritty Young Harris team.

- D'Anna is also optimistic he'll have Victor Peres, a preseason All-SAC second-team member who hasn't suited up this season, back sooner rather than later.

Know the Opponent

- The Mountain Lions have been on a tear so far this season, out-scoring their opponents 12-0 through three wins.

- Senior Mikie Rowe is already halfway to his goal total as a junior, slicing in five scores through three matches on 11 shots.

- Fellow senior Carlos Gomez is right behind his teammate, scoring four goals on eight shots after having seven total a year ago.

- Five Mountain Lions  — Rowe, Gomez, Seba Andreassen, Alex Gschwend and Dani Fischer — have two assists apiece.

- Goalkeeper Alex Iglesias has a perfect clean sheet, saving seven shots on goal en route to Young Harris' 3-0 start.

Head-to-Head

- LMU won the first-ever matchup between the two schools in 2010, where the Railsplitters captured a 2-0 home victory. The next season wasn't as promising as LMU dropped a 1-6 road loss.

- After going four years without playing, the duo squared off the past two years. LMU came out on the winning side both times, taking consecutive home-and-away outcomes, 2-1, for the 3-1 series advantage.
