HARROGATE, Tenn. — Saturday didn't go as planned for the Lincoln Memorial University women's soccer team.
The Lady Railsplitters outshot the Indians by six in what was a scrappy day on the pitch, but unfortunately for LMU it wasn't enough as one of Catawba's six shots put them ahead in the 60th minute for good. The 1-0 loss kept LMU from remaining undefeated at home and winning consecutive South Atlantic Conference matches so far this season.
In what was a scoreless halftime score, the Lady Railsplitters (8-3, 2-3 SAC) controlled possession, getting off nine of their 12 shots in the first 45 minutes alone. LMU also had two corners compared to none in the second half as the Indians (7-2-1, 3-1-1) registered four with all of those coming in the second half.
It was one of the corners in the 60th minute that gave Catawba the game-winning goal when Peyton Pruitt took the send from Riley Dorman and headed it into the left corner. Outside of the lone goal, the Indians didn't come close to scoring on the LMU defense and
Emanuely Costa, who had three saves.
The Lady Railsplitters continued to push the ball downfield, holding 55 percent of the possession and not giving the Indians another legit chance but ultimately, the ball didn't bounce the right way to even the match.
Up Next: LMU will travel to Tusculum University for a 5 p.m. start Wednesday, aiming to get back on track and keep itself in contention with five more SAC matches left.
